X the v-8s and drop it too 12 hours and you got something doable, promote it as the "12 hours of Delaware" sorry about my not liking the v8's but this will lead to built motors. 6 or less is the way to go allow small pick ups

V8s shouldn't matter. Run classes and award the purse that way. You can always have a claim rule for the 8's. I think this idea has alot of merit but running past midnight might be a problem. 11 am to 11 pm would probably be the way to go. Three driver would then be the max with max 2 hour shifts.

Ernie, the more rules the more this will become complicated, real fast. You don't need V8s, keep it quiet, keep it simple, and where are you going to get cars for under $500 bucks? Imports and little trucks can be had quite cheap. Keep the weight low and the track relatively slow. This makes it fun and safe and reasonably quiet. The V8s already have the enduro class. My idea is for junk cars to come and have fun and not piss off the neighbours or kill anybody. Simple roll bars and safety equipment required.
Take a Corolla for instance it weighs 1950lbs. sitting at the curb now gut that out and you have pretty light package, Monte Carlo comes in at 3200lbs curb weight, pretty heavy I'd say. you factor the lbs per horsepower and the small cars are going to be way more zippy and with way less mass. This would fast and fun for cheap and pretty darn safe to boot. Anyway I'm just spit ballin and trying to figure out how to get all those rusty Neons off the road!!  Grin

JWO is right you use the KISS rule which means keep it simple stupid ......simple basic rules to start roll cage lights and any basic street car to be judged in it's own class it would be a knockout to have the finish at the start of a regular race program something like the torch at the olympics with the music to go with it

Just for fun a little pool I was in. We took a Volkswagon Rabitt jamed the accelerator to the floor and had tickets on how long it would last ( Great fund raiser 50/50)
You could have you own to start your association funding.  That motor suffered an agnotizing
death it's last breath at about 28 minutes everyone of them in tensifying with your ticket in your hand.

Another thing How much fuel are going to burn with running 12 hours? with a 350 chev Shocked That alone would kill the whole idea! Keep the engines small and promote as "Green" racing Grin . Not that we like green or anything  Wink

Running a V8 will have nothing to do with it, especially if you open up one of the exit roads as a "chicane" to give it a road course flavour.  Nothing with a v8 has won the 24 Hours of LeMons... It's usually gutted BMW 3-series and Miatas and stuff like that.  If it's a true Endurance race, it's won by number of laps completed, not who crosses the line first.  Reliability is everything.

these are all good ideas i agree about no v-8s now it makes no sense to have small car with big v-6s and 4s no awd with turbos if u have a turbo 2wd only must be a fwd no mustangs (we should present this to paul)

My concerns are it would have to remain cheap and safety is of top prority. That being said the cars would need to be light and small. Configure the coarse to keep the speeds down in the corners. This should be about abilty agility and perserveriance and some reliability, not about power.
Might attract some new warm bodies to the enduro ranks and hey it would give the Chaos guys the venue to show off some of thier talents as well, or maybe they might be chicken Shocked

Go down the frontstretch, hard left into the infield, go the wrong way around the JRL course, left onto the backstretch, throw a chicane between turn 4 and the finish line. Put some jersey barriers up so people can park in the dirt in 3 and 4 and so nobody actually hits the tech shed.  Grin
