Rapid Rad and Star 93.3 present the Southern Ontario Sprints this Saturday

By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON - Brighton Speedway's 2014 season continues this Saturday as Rapid Rad and Star 93.3 present the fourth visit for the Southern Ontario Sprints. Night 13 of the chase for the championship continues for three of the speedway's five regular divisions.

Sanderson's Tire and Automotive Southern Ontario Sprints

Mitch Brown (No.10b Haldex) is the only sprint car driver to park in victory lane on at Brighton Speedway this year. The Sanderson's Tire and Automotive Southern Ontario Sprints points battle is as close as ever. Glenn Styres (No.0 Case IH) leads Brown by just two points atop the standings. Brown has three wins, all at Brighton, to Styres' one. Justin Martin (No.7m Vortex Insulation), Keith Dempster (No.5 Rochester Knighthawks), and rookie Shawn Sliter (No.71s) complete the top-five in the standings. The Saturday's race is the fourth of six visits. The Southern Ontario Sprints championship will be decided during the Ultramar CST Labour Day classic weekend at Brighton on August 30 and 31.

Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models

The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models will compete in a special Dash for Cash with $1000 on the line. The Pro Late Models were originally scheduled for a week off but an anonymous $500 sponsorship has been put up for the event. Charlie Sandercock's No.57 added $200 to the pot and Image Landscaping later added $200 of its own to the pot. The speedway made up the remaining $100 to make it an even $1000. The number of laps will be determined at the drivers' meeting based on the number of competitors, but will be shorter than the weekly 30-lap feature.

OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds

The hot shoe in the OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds division is Dan Ferguson (No.11 Kilmarnock Enterprise). Ferguson is coming off three consecutive wins that have planted him second in the division standings. Ferguson trails Ryan Scott (No.33 J&J Automotive) for the division lead by 20 points. Scott assumed the lead after Andrew Hennessy (No.87 Custom Automotive) had mechanical problems last week. Hennessy still leads the division with five wins. Doug O'Blenis (No.32 John's Car Care) and Adam Whaley (No.12 John's Equipment) hold positions four and five in the standings, respectively.

Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks

Doug Anderson (No.72 Hunt's Bobcat Service) caught fire last week - literally- but that didn't stop him from scoring a feature win. Anderson's win grew his lead in the standings to 135 points over Leslie Mowat (No.2 Cormier's Auto Recycling). Justin Ramsay (No.03 Empey Tire) is third ahead of Jamie Marshall (N0.55 C&L Upholstery) and Wade Purchase (No.53 Paul Turner Auto Repair).

Bill's Johns Comp 4s

The Bill's Johns Comp 4s will look for another new feature winner after two drivers got their first wins of the year in the last two weeks. Tyler French (No.0 Empey Tire) and Shelby Mills (No.78 ABC Taxi) are the most recent winners. This week's race will complete the 2014 edition of the ABC Taxi Triple Crown. The Greer brothers, Brady (No.94 Greer Excavating) and Riley (No.47 Clark's Automotive), have swept the Triple Crown races so far on May 10 and June 7 respectively. Rich Sanders (No.29 Fowl Mood Racing) is the current point leader ahead of Mills, Brady Greer, Riley Greer, and Emily Weedman (No.87 Nate's Auto Cosmedix).

Larry's Towing Spectator One-on-One races

The third edition of the Larry's Towing Spectator One-on-One races takes place this Saturday night. Tyler French's Honda is undefeated in two attempts this season. Bring your car to the track to try and knock off the current champion. Racers must bring their own helmets.

Tickets Please!

As the Sanderson's Tire and Automotive Southern Ontario Sprints are set to invade the speedway, adult admission is $20. Youths and seniors are $18, Children aged 7-12 are $5. Children six and under are always free at Brighton Speedway. A family pass, valid for two adults and two children 16 and under, is just $55.

The first green flag of the night is scheduled to fly at 7:00pm. The spectator gates will open at 5:00pm before hot laps at 6:00pm.
