TOYO TIRES F1600 CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO BARC GRAND PRIX OF ONTARIO THIS WEEKEND

Back-to-Back Weekends Marks the Halfway Point in the Season

TORONTO, ON (June 25, 2015) – The BARC Grand Prix of Ontario at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park marks the halfway point in the season for Ontario Formula 1600 competitors, rounds 5 and 6 in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship.

Teams were pushed to prepare cars quickly having just participated in last weekend’s Canadian Historic Grand Prix.

The championship points battle received a little shakeup with Mikhail Goikhberg launching himself to the top of the order. He benefited from a hard fought win over teammate Zach Robichon in the Saturday round and a solid third in the final race of the weekend.

Reid Arnold and Andre du Preez, Jr., are tied for second with Michael Adams hanging on the 3rd spot even though he did not compete in the event. Robichon is solidly in fifth with a second place and a win on the weekend and looks to take the top spot with Goikhberg not entered.

The A Class will welcome a new competitor to the series, Markham, ON’s Chen Hao, running with the BGR team.

The B Class points battle tightened up over the last weekend as well with Amy Castell really hitting her stride with a pair of podium finishes and sitting in a close second. Graham Lobban snagged a win and a second from leader and defending champion Connor Wagland.

Iron Man Mike Lee will be a threat as always and Kieran Murphy showed massive improvements in pace over last season and sits fifth in points.

A full day of testing takes place Friday with a practice, qualifying session and race each on Saturday and Sunday.
