Hastie, Lovell Bring Home First Checkers Of The Season
« on: June 28, 2015, 06:18:21 PM »
Varney ON-  It will be a night 14 year old Alex Hastie of Durham likely won’t forget as he managed to out duel a field of twenty Fun Stocks for his first checker of the season.  The graduate from J-Car racing stepped up this season to fun stocks piloting #34 for Don Tremble and ever since the start of the season has always been close but tonight in front of family and friends was able to seal the deal.  Second in this race would be #0 Bill Clarke from Mount Forest, third #84 Andrea Parsons from Clifford, fourth #5 Jeramy Duguay from Hanover and fifth #14 Luke Bos from Conn.  It was also a memorable night for another Fun Stock racer #25 Billy Lovell from Mildmay as he brought home his first checker of the season.  After taking a few seasons away from racing Lovell decide to return to racing this season in memory of his father Tom who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year and run a car with his dad’s old number and paint scheme and put it in victory lane.  Second would go to #84 Andrea Parsons, third #0 Bill Clarke, fourth #48 John Green from Drayton and rounding out the top five #14 Luke Bos.

On tap this night was also the only appearance by the “Feature Stars” racing series which is a three track series set up to showcase young driving talent in the Jr Late Model and Mini Truck classes that run at Full Throttle, Grand Band and Sauble speedways.  In the Jr Late Model class it was #49 Hayden Sim from London taking both feature races.  In feature one he was followed by #14 Cody Wilds from Exeter in second, third was #15 Kaisha Zimouch from Mount Brydges, fourth #86 Owen Corriveau from Strathroy and fifth ##37 Eric Thom from Sauble Beach.  In feature two second would go to #15 Kaisha Zimouch, third #29 Austin Arnel, fourth #37 Eric Thom, fifth #23.

In Mini Truck action the night belonged to #11 Kevin Strak as he would pilot his truck to victory lane twice in convincing fashion.  In fact the top five would be the same order for both feature races with second going to #12 Tanner Pirie from Woodstock followed in third by his brother Cole Pirie in the #10, fourth would be #33 Hayden Sim from London and fifth place would be #17.

Mini Stock action would also see the same winner in both feature races and again it was no stranger to victory lane as #63 Brandon Crumbie from Cookstown would continue on what looks like an unstoppable run this season.  In feature two though it was proven it is not always driving skill that gets you to victory lane luck does have to be on your side also.  In feature two on a late race restart it would be the #35 of Bobby Tolton from Rockwood that would get the jump on the #63 of Crumbie putting him in chase mode with laps running out.  Then as they came around corner four to get the two laps to go sign Tolton’s car would get loose and as he took his foot out of it to save it Crumbie would drive bye and keep his winning streak alive with #35 Bobby Tolton holding on for second.  Third would go to #36 Corry Young from Owen Sound, fourth #73 Scott Schlueter from Stratford, fifth would be ##64 Dave Crumbie from Beeton.  In feature one second would go to #36 Corry Young, third #73 Scott Schlueter, fourth #64 Dave Crumbie and rounding out the top five #9 Tessa Cremasco from Mount Forest.

Not to be outdone the Street Stock division would also have a double feature winner in #35 Mike Thebeau from Mitchell.  Thebeau did an excellent job getting his car through traffic in the early going in both features and once he got to the front there was no catching him.  Second in the first feature would be #3 Mark King from Hillsburgh, third #20 Ryan Edwards-Kiss from Londesboro, fourth #7 Tim Tolton driving for Paul Huskins and rounding out the top five was #5 Dave Grey Jr from Hanover.  In feature two second would  go to #7 Tolton, third #01 Travis Farrow from Holstein, fourth #20 Edwards-Kiss and in fifth #3 King.
