« on: June 29, 2014, 09:00:36 PM »
Varney, ON. – True fans of short track tight racing were treated to some classic bumping and grinding on the highbanks this past week as action was the attraction.  The Pure Stock class this week gave fans their moneys worth when it came to entertainment and continue to build a following of fans.  Starting the night with a car count of 13 and when the dust settled there would be 6 cars that would see their night cut short in wrecks plus 2 black flags.  In feature one things got going on lap 9 when 34 Don Tremble of Durham got turned around in corner four and looked like he would be in the clear until 18 Steve Schnurr of Rockford came around the corner with no where to go and hit the 34 head on.  Four laps letter it would be 71 Justin McKague from Teeswater battling at the front with 01 Travis Farrow from Dromore when something would brake on 71 car sending both up off the end of the track in between corners one and two.  In the end it would be 14 Luke Bos from Conn beating 17 Nick Clarke from Mount Forest to the line followed in third by 01 Travis Farrow, fourth 95 Jonathon Bates from Owen Sound, rounding out the top 5 was 49 Alvin McNicol from Exeter.  Feature two saw 8 cars take the green and when the checkers flew the top five where all that was left.  Coming to the checker first was 17 Nick Clarke, second was 01 Travis Farrow, third would be 14 Luke Bos, fourth 78 Jesse Lamont from Hanover and rounding out the top five #5 Lyle Lorenz from Listowel.

V8 Thunder Stocks continued the excitement this week showed the fans some great racing without any paint trading.  In feature one it wasn’t until the late going that things would really get interesting.  A lap 18 caution for a spin out in corner two would bring the field together for a green white checker.  With the jump at the drop of the green the 17 of Tristan Gill from Waterloo was able to hold off the hard charging 27 of Mark Fenton from Tiverton, holding on to third was new comer 01 Brandon McConnell from Tara, fourth went to 277 Ray Flynn from Clinton and rounding out the top 5 was 05 Steve Brook from Hillsburgh.  Feature two showed the great driving skill in this division as they would run a caution free race.  In the end it was 55 Scott Field from Hepworth overcoming his rough luck from the week before to take the checker.  Second was 01 Brandon McConnell, third 17 Tristan Gill, fourth 27 Mark Fenton and rounding out the top five this time 277 Ray Flynn.

Mini Stock drivers this week also brought their A game to show the fans with great close racing action.  In feature one 51 Clark Hartman took advantage of the draw for position  and with outside pole he would not look back as everyone would find themselves chasing him all race.  In the end the battle was for second with the 86 of Billy Schwartzenburg from Guelph betting 36 Corry Young from Owen Sound to the line fourth would be 50 Chad Corcoran from Milton and fifth went to 7 Paul Boyd from Harriston.  Feature two as always would see the field reversed from the start of feature one and this change up would bring a lot of the cars that where deep in the field before to the front to battle.  In the end it would be 86 Billy Schwartzenburg to the line first followed by 36 Corry Young, 50 Chad Corcoran, fourth would be 9 Tessa Cremasco from Arthur and fifth went to 51 Clark Hartman.

Outlaw Modifieds made a return trip to the highbanks this time with a field of 8 cars taking the green but as in their last visit it would be 10 A J Emms from Orillia taking both feature races.  In feature one he had to battle from the back of the field and with some timely cautions was able to work his way to the front.  Then after a lap 15 restart was able to hold off 0 Cliff Hodgkinson, third would go to 40 Martin Frieburger from Walkerton, forth 33 Tom Houghton from Kitchener and fifth 46 Shawn McGlynn also from Kitchener.  Feature two would see a little small field do to issues with a couple cars from feature one but in the end it would be a battle with 46 Shawn McGlynn for the checker, third would go to 3 Rob Divenanzo, forth 40 Martin Frieburger and rounding out the top five would be 33 Tom Houghton.

Crazy Trains wrapped up the night the way the Pure Stocks started it with lots of paint trading a roll over and a lot of clean up needing to be done on the track.  In the end it was the Rockford Rednecks with the checker, second going to Texas Traincar Massacre, third was John Bates Roofing from Owen Sound and in fourth Here We Go Again.

This coming Friday night will prove to be another exciting night under the lights on the highbanks as the Pro Late Models return for three feature races as drivers try to improve their points for “The Big One” coming Aug 31st.  Also on hand will be Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks and the Crazy Trains for two big features!  All the action kicks off at 7:30 5KM’s south of Durham at Full Throttle motor Speedway.
