ROBICHON LEADS BRIAN GRAHAM RACING TO PODIUM SWEEP
IN RACE 2 AT CANADIAN HISTORIC GRAND PRIX

BOWMANVILLE, ON (June 21, 2015) – Zacharie Robichon ran a perfect race and led a perfect day for Brian Graham Racing that saw the team sweep the A Class podium in race 2 at the Canadian Historic Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

By the time the checkered flag fell on the race, which ran entirely under green flag conditions, Robichon had gapped his BGR teammates Reid Arnold and Mikhail Goikhberg by 7.973 seconds despite having to contend several times with slower traffic.

“If you plan a race it never really works out, but today it basically worked out the way I would have wanted it to,” Robichon said. “At the beginning (Arnold and Goikhberg) had my draft and I was thinking they could keep up. As soon as they started fighting it was just head down and work on my consistency, and it worked out.

“I can’t complain. The car was great, and everything the team did this weekend was really good.”

Behind Robichon, Arnold and Goikhberg were engaged in an intense race-long battle that saw them switch positions on almost every lap.

“Today was definitely way better (than yesterday),” Arnold said, referencing the tangle he had with Caitlin Johnston on Saturday that took him out of the running and cost him valuable championship points. “I got to race with my teammate Mikhail, who’s a really experienced racer. Because we’re teammates we knew we’d keep it clean and fair with each other.”

“It came down to the last lap and we fought really hard for it, but he let me have it. The team built a great car, just an amazing job.”

Goikhberg was similarly enthusiastic about the team’s strong results.

“I would have preferred a second win for the weekend, of course, but a 1-2-3 finish for the team is great and very well-deserved,” he said. “I had a good, hard, clean race with Reid, and it was a lot of fun.”

Brian Graham was all smiles as he praised his team for its success.

“You don’t get days like that very often, so we’ll relish that one,” Graham said. “The guys work well together, the crew did an outstanding job, and that’s a good way to end a race weekend for sure.”

In B Class, Graham Lobban claimed a clear victory that belied the fierceness of the battle going on behind him. Second-place finisher Steve Bodrug, 3rd-place Amy Castell, and 4th-place Connor Wagland traded positions constantly throughout the 15-lap running. The battle culminated in a last-turn, wheel-to-wheel pass and a drag race to the line that saw Castell finish ahead of Wagland by less than a car length.

“I was glad to be ahead of all that to be honest,” Lobban said of his victory. “A win is great. It’s a strong end to a strong weekend. We’re really happy.”

Rounds 5 and 6 of the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship will see the series return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park next weekend, June 27 and 28, for the BARC-sanctioned regional racing event.
