Title: LLM/Thunder Touring Series
Post by: race8 on February 28, 2011, 05:16:01 PM
I am interested in finding out who is interested in a series for Limited Late Models that would be much the same as the McColl series that ran last year.  There is talk at this time that there may not be a series in place for this year and something needs to be setup ASAP if it is going to happen this year. There is no point in discussing rules or payouts at this time until we see if there will be enough interest to go any further. Last year there were only approx. 7 cars that competed in all 4 events which is a problem! I understand that the cost and the time factor is an issue but there would need to be more support by drivers to travel to the other tracks. I know that things come as the season goes on but we need to know how many people would be planning to run at all the tracks. Please spread the word to your fellow drivers at your tracks because I think that something could still be done for this year if we get on it soon. Thunder car drivers as well please let me know what you think because the 2 classes would work well together to put on a good show if there is support from drivers.

Thanks Jason Parker

The dates would possibly be

Friday July 1 Sauble
Sunday July 3 Peterborough
Thursday July 28 Barrie
Sunday July 31 Sunset

This is NOT for sure just what I think was in the works but like I said if there is some interest then I am sure that the dates could be firmed up

Not to sure how our hometrack cars would stack up but, we have some room on our schedule if the tour needed another track to stop at.

Any leads on a sponsor for this potential series? or is McColl and Stefco still on board?

I'm definitely in-  #8 Sauble Thunder Car - Matt Mulholland.  I really hope there are enough guys interested to make this work.  My only worry is that maybe not enough drivers are on the internet and might not read this.  Hopefully we can get the numbers on here to make it a go...and then the word will get out to others.

I agree that the dates are very close (Sauble-Peterborough) but I looked at all the schedules and those are the only dates that each class would be available to run away from their home tracks

I have talked with all the promoters and they all are in if we can get something together. I will take care of setting up the payouts and the rules. The dates I posted are the ones that will work with the 4 tracks. So at this point all that is lacking is the support of the drivers!! It seems like alot of guys say that they didn't know about things like this or they would have been in but the point is that time is running out!!!

I know you need to get some numbers for the promoters, so it might help if guys from the different tracks that read this post might be able to speak for other drivers that don't come on here.  It wouldn't be a guarantee, but then at least you might have some approximate numbers.

I would guess on behalf of the Sauble Thunder Cars that ran most of the series last year, we would have at least;

1. Matt Mulholland
2. Marvin Freiburger
3. Joe Adams
4. Todd Davenport
5. Ken Grubb
6. Dan Wright
7. Corey Adams

A driver running in the series setting up the payouts and rules??? Series is a great idea but something also needs to be released of what payouts are actually gonna be and the rules as well get something together that way and im sure alot more interest would be sparked, you need something set in stone. Like we going off the old Mccoll payouts and home track rules or what???

Also - for dates...
July 1st - Flamboro is having their big NASCAR race, where some top runners potentially for this "series" are going to be running, so that date should be changed due to conflict of interest would it not?

Just a question to - are the rules going to be set in stone and not changed half way through the year like they were last year after the sauble cars won the first 2 races? After the rules were changed, sunset cars won the following 2 races.

And there was no recognition given to any of the drivers for participating in the series aside from the drivers at sunset. No sauble cars were recognized for their accomplishments aside from what Spencer Lewis wrote about in Inside Track.

A series like this would be a great one to have - but I agree with the above statement that payouts and rules need to be posted and that everyone knows about the series (as not everyone has access to this site)

A lot of legistics were over looked last year and need to be set in stone this year for this series to successfully take off..

Good Luck with putting everything together Jason - look forward to seeing what you come up with!

The reason I offered to take care of the rules and payouts is because NO ONE ELSE has done anything to keep the series going this year.  Last year the series was run by one guy and he has got enough on his plate this year and he is not interested.  If someone else would like to do it that would be great for me!!! As for the awards and rules, last year Sunset awarded their own guys at their banquet and the other tracks should have done the same. The rules are not the problem because they are very close with home track rules(with minor weight penalties). The real problem is the enforcement of the rules!! At this point there hasn't been enough interest to approach last years sponsors so it probably won't happen.  The Flamborugh date was just added and is a problem because that has been Sauble's invitational date for awhile now???

well jason, i have to give you credit for at least trying. funny how no one from stefco or mccoll does not seem to have the time to at least let racers know what is happening. dilley should be able to at least let us know if series is on or not. i guess now that he has his own thing going at sunset that drivers that competed in series last season are not important enough to answer to now, unless you are a sunset driver. thanks again for the effort jason, good luck this season.

Don Are u kidding me I am sorry  that you feel that way but by no means is that a fair comment at all I will support any series that is out there I do not have the time to do it right and  I will not do it half ass so if that is not good enough for you then I am very sorry but if you think that you are going to make me look like an ass I do not think so.
Mark

Don
The sponsors form last year(Stefco & McColl) did a great thing for us racers by supporting each series and its not their job to do any of the planning. Its up to each track or someone who offers their time for the good of the sport (which Mark Dilly did last year) to do this, but no one has done it!!! This wasn't meant to be a pissing match and its to bad to see something with so much potential died off but " That's racing"

mark, sorry how it sounded, but for last couple of weeks there has been other people on here asking the same question with no answer. i know you do not do things half assed, your work at sunset speaks for itself. so who do the racers approach to find out what is up with this series? any info would be appreciated. if this series is a no go, then i am looking forward to running specials at sunset.

jason, not trying to make it into a pissing contest by no means, i am just not afraid to say what is on my mind. as i said to mark`s response, all we as racers want is an answer if series is going to happen or not. if mark is not running it, fine, just say so, then we can move on with plans for season.

Not all hope is lost. There is still lots of time to put this together. Realistically, you're talking about a four-race miniseries; that occurs in the middle of the race season; involving drivers that are already going to have cars built and competing at their home tracks anyway.

Given that the first race of this series (as Jason Parker has proposed it) wouldn't be until July 1st, I'd say there is  still plenty of time to get this off the ground.

Just a personal opinion.

As was offered earlier, Varney has some room on the schedule to potentially host one or more races in this series as well, should it come to life.

I would say that Jason Parker has done more than enough to try and get this going. It should not have to fall on a driver's shoulders. He got the word out, it looks like there is interest so, he should be able to pull back on this. As far as McColl and Stefco are concerned, I personally don't think it is there responsibility to organize this series as they are only the sponsor. Unless soemone from one of those organizations actually wants to take on the role of "series "director", it is not fair to suggest that they owe an explanation as to why this series has or has not been confirmed.

Good job Parker spreading the word. Looks like lots of interest. We would love to be involved. Hope it all works out.
