Kawartha Results June-6th
« on: June 07, 2008, 12:47:06 AM »
Kawartha opened there season on a very hot a humid evening...to a great crowed and a lot of Exciting Racing.

Mini-Stock

Feature:N/A was moved until 2 weeks..due to time constraints.....I think we all figured that would happen

Pro Challenge

Feature:Dennis Thompson

Clean racing threwout the heats...feature was a good one..Thompson led the whole thing..but Kevin Crowhurst was right there..and I think a nother lap or so and he would have passed him.

Thunder Car

Feature:Willy Reyns

Was awesome to see Willy finally win after coming so close so many times!   The feature started out messy..right off the initial start...a bunch of guys got into a bumper car effect...ultimately it was Jim Remington getting the worst of it...and then out of anger he spun the car around and hit the wall again..very hard.  after a clean up ...and completely re-start was called...to much of the same effect..as this time it was the #30 car getting spun hard into the inside wall, 3rd time was a charm as the field finnaly made it to turn 1 this time..and the feature was clean after that.... Mayhew was on Reyns bumper all race but could not get by.

Ltd Late Model

Feature:Dwight Brown

A small field of LLM made the trip to Kawartha tonight....the feature was all Brown, Parsons was close but burnt up his right rear and just fell back.  One of the big surprises was Walters Kawartha car was just JUNK...he retired from the Heat & Semi feature..and all he was..was a back marker in the feature, they got some work to do..but I'm sure they will get the ship righted before to long.

Late Model

Feature:Dan McHattie

WOW-O-WOW! what a field of Late Models at Kawartha this year!

A Huge field of 19 LM's took to the high banks on friday night, both Heats & Semi Feature were competive and the feature was much the same.

Mayhew lead the first few laps until Darragh Moroney got loose and ran over his front end..causing damage to the #60, the crew made repairs and sent him back out..only to have his bad luck contiune as Jackson spun and Mayhew had no where to go and clobbered Jacksons car, amazingly both cars pitted and returned....Mayhew's car looked like it had been in a demo derby...and then to make matters worse he must have had multiple heart attacks being behind Owen Smith as he almost lost the car mutiple times....(what eles is new)

After a late race caution for a spin by Moroney...it was McHattie and Linc Brown starting side-by-side....they both races door to door! for the last 3 laps..as McHattie on the outside! prevailed barely over Brown. IMO McHattie won the race off turn-2 of the final lap...he drove it "straight off" turn 2 and carried a ton of speed down the backstretch...Brown closed the gap in 3-4 but the momentum was to much.

If this is the regualer "crowd" for the LM's this year...my oh my..what a treat...... Brown,McHattie,Mayhew,Moroney,Thring,Jackson,Mercer are all fast! and guys like Watson,Morgan,Kimmerly,Kimball are not much off the pace!

It's going to be one heck of a battle all season long in the LM's I can't wait to see how it unfolds!

OSCAAR

Feature:Glen Watson

A big field of OSCAAR Super Lates showed up for opening night of there season.

Heats went off clean, and then to the voice of our own Spencer Lewis the Feature was underway, quickly you could tell who was class of the field..Watson & Maginnis were in there own zip code it seemed like...as they were running away with it, untill Shane had some sort of technical problem..and it was all Watson from there on.  Only 1 real incident happened, was Pee Wee looked to get loose checked up..and Dunford had to do the same and cut to the bottom..causing Spicer to lock it up and spin himself out..unfortunelly it caused him to take a pretty good lick into the backstretch wall ending his night.

The field spread out preety quickly..it seemed, I guess it's expected first night out some guys had all the bugs figured out and a lot didn't...but I suspect it to be another great OSCAAR season.

Aproxx Car Counts:

Pro Challenge:12
Mini-Stocks:19
Thunder Cars:18
Ltd Lates:10
Late Models:19
OSCAAR:19

Was a great night...now it's off to Barrie tomorrow night! ;D

Slapdown or anyone else : I noticed Kawartha using the double file restarts for the entire field in the Late Models - is it new for this season or did they use it last year? The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the ACT also use double file restarts.

They did a good job of moving the show along last night and probably would have got the Mini Stock feature in by curfew except for a couple of major cleanups.

They do double up restarts all the time at KD,leader should be able to pick inside or outside the leader should never be penalized.Just my take.

yup always double-file at Kawartha....every track should be doing double-file imo, on every re-start.

kawartha never ceases to amaze me at how, more often than not, there is a ridiculously close finish at the end of a race

Unless I am mistaken, 85 LM is Cole Powell (Red and white, Awesome Racewear on the side?)

just hope they put the grandstand section back to corner 1 sometime soon.  Sitting there baking in the sun is just not fun and the sound is not as good in the corner compared to the end of the front stretch section like in previous years.  The sightlines for racing are good but man if that is where we are going to have to sit all season there's gonna be some serious heat strokes during the major events like the ACT and NCATS race.

"ultimately it was Jim Remington getting the worst of it...and then out of anger he spun the car around and hit the wall again..very hard.  after a clean up ...and completely re-start was called...to much of the same effect..as this time it was the #30 car getting spun hard into the inside wall,"

To clear that up, Remington didn't spin the car around out of anger, by then the rear axel was out of the car, and it was drifting up the track into the rest of us. Had he not hit the gas it would've been much worse for many of us, an experinced save on his part, not anger (athough the reason for it in the first place wasn't the smartest). As it was he still cliped me (#30) hard enough in the rear to break my axle, which resulted in the spin on the restart, not being spun out.

Check out youtube for that and other highlights of the night.
