a shame to be sitting there with no real outlook of opening back up. given the state of economics, low car counts at other tracks makes me wonder how many others will lay silent in a few short years.

just around the uprising in caledonia , maybe before, and everything going on there. there were plans to do somethings there and reopen then a native group said the track was on native land and never heard anything after that...not sure if it had anything to do with it, but i wouldnt be surprised...

bottom line on cayuga or any track is racing is gradually dying. economics, municipal bylaws, more venues for people to spend there money at, and the state of racing itself are killing racing. there are a lots of things i seen back in early 70`s when racing in my opinion was great here in ontario and by late 70`s the downturn started. i can well remember going to westgate speedway ( now peterborough) on a regular saturday night of racing and the stands where packed. wednesday night specials where quite common and again a great mid week crowd as well as full car counts. lots of tracks over the years have had problems with lack of fans and car counts but seems now that is the norm at several tracks. racing here has gotten away from the fun, there are more drivers out there who run on a budget than those with deep pockets but it seems most tracks cater more to the guy who wants to out dollar the little guy. i also think technology has played a big part in racings downturn. 20 years ago if you went to any major car show during the winter you would see countless numbers of tracks with cars on display and lots of fans dropping by to pick up the new season schedule, now people just wait until it comes online. i feel that plays a huge part in lack of fans, i mean why spend money driving to track, paying admission, maybe buying some food when all you have to do is wait until sunday and find out who won, or who wrecked who. again whether it is cayuga or any track for that matter, racing is dying!

You make a good point Don . In my personal situation, I now work weekends and as my employer races regularly , I look forward to the video every Sunday posted on this website to follow his season. I have been able to attend two events this year and saw alot of familiar faces. There just not might be the influx of new racing fans as there was  in previous years. The availability of Nascar on tv also could be keeping people at home more but I beleive it is a generational thing. Most of the young people are into the tuner cars and stock car racing does not have the appeal that it did , even with the 4 cyl class becoming the most of the roster for car counts.  ???

duken, i totally agree with the generation thing. my two sons go to the races but their friends all think it is a waste of time, rather drink and fight, play video games or rip around town in their tuners. the times, they are a changing!

I thought I heard that there was a proposal from the natives to build a casino there and keep the track open.

 Hey Folks

Nothing concrete on the track, but this is the latest (news/rumours)  as of recently. I have no specific details to share other than word is "something is going" on with Cayuga Speedway. This came out of a town council meeting (here in Cayuga). I assume someone was inquiring at City Hall about permits to operate the track. I was talking to a gentleman last weekend who has close ties to the track. He confirmed that there was "something up". He wasn't totally in the know and able to provide details, but speculated there could be a couple of races in 2012. Possibly full schedule in 2013. Track improvements are being looked into I'm told (re-paving, safer-barriers, refurbished bleachers). Apparently there are some changes/additions in the ownership.
I know we've heard stories before and this could just be another false hope but hope is all we have right now. I get asked from time to time "What's going on with Cayuga Speedway?", but usually have nothing new to offer. This is the latest word around town here in Cayuga.
Take it for what it's worth. If there are any updates, I'll post them.

Here is what I've heard 2 year developement plan schedule racing in for 2013 or 2014.

It seems the new owners who have the track now are still not sure what they want to do, as I heard in may 2011 that all the legal battles have been settled.

They have also have had many offers that have been dismissed and 1 or 2 that are still on the table.

So who really knows if this is all a bunch of feathers without the chicken again.

I drove past the track the other day and noticed the gates were open. So being my nosey self I pulled in. I ran into a gentleman who was on his way out and he was thrilled that people still cared about cayuga speedway. He pretty much backed up what racenut just said, also the ends are going to be picked up 5 degrees. Sounded positive to me. I just moved 10 mins from the track and to hear that things were taking shape was music to my ears. Here's hoping!

one thing that hurt cayuga was getting away from the family atmosphere they had on may 24 weekends...people would camp and bring their kids and they would have a couple of bands and good racing on 2 days...but then the racing was cut back and the track let all the lugens take over with the underage boozing and drugs and music blasting all nite...during the good times it was almost like autumn colours once a month...
