Haven't seen racing there since July 25th, and now its not until Aug 22 that we will race again.

Dissapointed that they didn't reschedual Wednesday for Friday. Enough with weeks off for trailer park entertainment!!!  Its our cars that have wheels not our houses, lets race Friday!

Why don't they have racing this weekend? Just so there not competing with Havelock? Or is there something at the track as well?

Just Havelock... Any racer is going to chose to run over listening to a bunch of washed up singers.

as far as I know that is the reason...do they really think Havlock will keep that many fans from comming?  I HIGHLY dout it....I for the most part agree with what KD does..but these off-weekends for random fairs and crap...is stupid..expessly conserding how many rainouts they have had

Its going to be hard to move up in the points with only 5 dates left. I feel like I've done nothing for the past 3 weeks and that is frustrating.... I'm all for added date, but they don't have time at the end of the year. We are running into late September. time after that is invitations.

So please, forget about the stupid hillbilly fairs next year and lets race!!!

Here's what I suggest they do.

Run this Friday.... Run 1 Wendsay....Run during the NCATS...like how Barrie does..make a day out of it even if they just run Features for the home divisions.

because the way it's going....I dout they will even get 5 more nights in....more like 3...

Apparantly the Havelock Jamboree does affect attendance. Mark Rinaldi mentioned it on the Brighton board.

I'm sure it does somewhat....but with all these rainouts there losing more money.

say Havlock they lose 10% of there normal attendence and that much money.

but with all these rainouts there losing 100% of there attendence and money....and then you have Havelock off and you lose all that again....you change it and race, you might lose your 10% but it's better then losing 100% twice.

speaking of tonight....it's getting real sunny around the Pickering area..and looking at the radar the rain is breaking up....think they might have droped the ball tonight.

This is starting to get pathetic. There is a chance of rain so we call the race. I live 10 minutes south of the track and it hasn't rained here for quit a while. The Weather Network says it is sunny with clouds in Peterborough right now ( 2:30 ish ) and there is only a 10% chance of rain in the evening and overnight. This is two times they've done this this season. I know the early rainout a few weeks back it was raining in Peterborough at 7pm so quit a few of you said they made the right call. They didn't, it never rained at the track. Some of our crew didn't know it was called and went. They went to the casino for a few hours instead and they said it didn't rain a bit. I know the weather has really been awful this year, but cancelling this early is brutal. Racers are racers, rain or shine. I don't know many that don't go because there is a chance of rain. The pits had quit a few cars at CCS for the first Kawartha/CCS late model race and it rained like hell almost all day. The race did eventually get rained out but we were willing to take the chance on racing. That's 7 hours of driving for nothing. Oh well, we wanted to race. The forecast last weekend for the ACT race at CCS wasn't the greatest either but they raced. Since the July ACT race I think Kawartha has only raced once, and I was working. I haven't been to the track in over a month and to be honest, I haven't really missed it. It may be age, it may be because it ticks me off that the races are rained out so early. If I had a car or were a sponsor I would be pretty upset with the Kawartha management. Back when I raced at Peterborough in the early 90's they would never have called the races this early. How and why has it become common practice to rain these things out so early? It makes no sense. If you are worried about attendance, take the odd lump Skip, you can't have good crowds every night. By cancelling in this fashion you are ticking off the racers and the diehard fans that are eager to get on with the show.

A BIG THUMBS DOWN TO KAWARTHA ???

Lots of guys are driving long distances to get there. So when you have teams loading up to go at 11, you are forced to make the call then. And the way it was looking at 11...

PERFECT time to reschdule for FRIDAY!!!!!

Seem we got cheated out of our 50 lapper. No mention of reschduleing that. Next Aug 22th schedule is up and of course its the damn legends in there. Wish they would cut those stupid go-carts and give their regualar classes the longer races promised for tonight. Wow I hate those stupid cars and how they always get in the way.

Kids, they are toy go-carts with a stupid plastic body on them. Take em to the amusement park with the kids where they belong. Want to race, build (yes yourself) a real car, and fabricate a few things youself instead of buying a go cart in a box...

That feels better...

Well I was hoping that I wouldn't log in and see that once again a night of racing was cancelled way too early.  But (sigh) it looks like the weather was not what was anticipated so the night of racing could go on.  Why not step up like the owner at CCS did for those that travelled for the ACT event and if the night gets rained out after the teams get there cover some of their costs to get there?  And as for the season pass situation I know right now I will not reknew for next season without some type of compensation for all the rain outs.  When the idea first came up of the season pass I worked it out that to reclaim my $200 value I would have to attend the Sizzler and the NCATS race ( cost of $50 for both i was guessing at the price at that time) then that meant I would only have to attend 8 nights of regular racing.  So based on the recent weather in the past weeks I'm expecting we will get rained out for half of the remaining nights so that means I will actually end up paying more for a regular nights racing then someone just showing up for the night and buying a ticket.  Seems like there is no deal on buying a season pass if you ask me.  Sad part is I know not to go up to Derek and say anything to him as he feels he knows everything more then anyone else.  Too bad Kawartha you just lost not 1 but 4 season passes for next year as people I usually go to the races with were seeing what happened this year with my season pass to see if they would buy one next year.

Give them a bit of a break on the season pass thing. See if they come up with something for you guys before the end of the season. They have been known to make things right...

For cancelling a Wednesday night early, its not the worst. I didn't have to take off work early, only to get rained out and end up working late on Friday...

I'll give them a break on the season pass thing if and when they do something to make up for it.  However I booked every Friday night off this summer and Wednesday night so that I could travel in from Toronto to watch the races.

May i suggest you ease up on the Legends series, they work just as hard on their cars during the week as you do??  They put on a race just like every other division at Kawartha.  They are not my favorite either but still give them credit for getting in their cars and riding around only a few inches from the ground.

I'm sure Kawartha will make it right for you, you are not the sort of fan they can afford to lose.

As a better explaination of my issue with the legends...

You cannot get away from them. Other series comparable to legends such as pro challenge and cup lites, do not run the same number of times at any track. I would enjoy the legends ONCE, but you cannot avoid them. I remeber a few years back, I went to Brighton, and guess who was running, the Legends.. I avoid Peterborough because of them, but then they show up wherever I go....

Take the ACT weekend at Kawartha for example. On Saterday, the legends ran at Mosport with the OSSCAR series. THEN THE NEXT DAY with the ACT series. I had to suffer with them both times (these were the only races I got to watch this year in their entrieity, because I was not running). Twice in one weekend, on top of real traveling series!! They can't draw a crowd of their own, so they try to take attention there for another reason.

Only the legends series is this pushy, and make themselves unavoidable

Now this year. They ran earlier in the year at mosport. As always with the legends, their feature was full of yellows from stupid spins. It took forever. Thunder feature was up next. Because of their stupid little show taking so long, we couldn't get the Thunder feature in before the rain. Cost to me $150-$175... Kawartha didn't get the 50 lap thunder feature in Wednesday, and can't put it next week because the shedule is full with legends (the legends are still running at Peterborought the next night)!! As you may or may not know the 50 lap features pay about double. Cost to me $100-120. Total on the year, $250-$295. You are a bit mad over your season pass, understandable, but look at the legends cost to me....

How can they run so much? Unlike every other class from 4-funs to Lates, who actually spend the week working on our cars, Legends are go carts in boxes. You buy all your parts from a dealer, who ownes the series. Some guys even buy complete cars, that the dealer maintains for them. What you are looking at is a go cart club for adults, with a series promoter/dealer that is buying as much track time as he can get, to increase his sales of cars and parts. It takes track time away from real track series, and real traveling series, and is boring the fans. If i could just avoid them I would, they make it so I can't. So I'm just telling it as I see it.

Ross, that is a great expalanation of the Legends. I am not a fan of them either and don't know of any who are. I don't agree with the bashing so much, it's not their fault they race all the time. I didn't realize they did race so much and your expalantion as to why says alot. How many dates do they have this year?

20 dates.... 3 times Kawartha, 2 times Mosport.

They can race everyday for all I care, just get out of the way. OSCAAR I beleive adds to the night, legends umm no.

I feel compfortable bashing their racing because they really have no regard for others racing. Take the ACT show that they came to on Sunday at Kawartha. All execpt for a few legends teams were packed and on the road before the ACT race started. Force everyone to watch your crap, then have so little regard for real racing that you leave? Well thats how I feel about them, unfortunatly they never run last, so I could be packed and out of there, if they did they would be racing for empty stands...

Rent Mosport's cart track/small road course. They probably would work great there. They don't because they know no one would show up to see them (funny thing is I would actually like to see that myself). Put OSCAAR on the same track (not practical but for argument sake), which would attract fans, and they would be all over it, like a fly to crap...
Title: Re: Wednesday Special at KD

You've made some really valid points here.  ;) I guess enough points to justify the bashing. The cars are loud and slow which is a horrible mix. They have too many one car spin cautions and MOST of the races are formula one style. Few passes. They also have little use for the other classes as you have pointed out. Can anyone name one Legend driver that has moved up? There may be a couple but I don't know one. And I know quite a few people that WILL NOT go to the races if they are on the card. I've proposed ( not to the series, just on this board )in the past that the travelling series get together and have a travelling show. Get the Can-Am midgets, Pro Challenge, Legends and the Vintage Modifieds to join forces and tour the tracks as a package. They all travel to most of the tracks alone anyways. If they did this, the regular drivers could get the night off to enjoy the races. ( Maybe not Kawartha, we have enough nights off. ) These classes on there own interest me very little but as a package it's something I would go and see. Just a promotion tool that makes good sense. But it would have to include co-operation and compromise by all involved and we know that is pretty rare in the southern Ontario racing scene.

As i said before they are not a favourite of mine as I prefer the Thunders and Late Model series at Kawartha.  And looking at it from a driver's point of view I can understand your frustration with not being able to run because of rain outs and other series cutting in on time on the track.  But as a fan my only option to complain is on here since the track won't listen.  You try and help them out by buying the season pass and hopefully others will see that it is a good thing and get one also.  So at the end of the season we'll review what has happened and see what they come up with.  I was more upset with you telling me to back off about the season pass issue when you continually were bashing the Legends series.  We are all entitled to our opinion and we have said ours.  Personally I wish someone would invent a canopy system to throw over a track so that weather would never be a factor so the racers could race all season long and I as a fan could sit in the stands and enjoy the show put on the drivers and teams.

77 Tim Fernandes runs the 7 legend and the 77 Late at Kawartha.. I gotta be fair ;)

That package idea is a good idea... As I said, I would go to ONE of their shows a year.

I was more upset with you telling me to back off about the season pass issue when you continually were bashing the Legends series.

Sorry that you took that the wrong way. Back off is the wrong words. I'd be upset if I were you to. All I was saying is that give it a bit of time, nothing they can do about it right now. I'm sure they are in a bad position also, pass holders are upset, drivers are upset, sponsors I'm sure are a bit upset to and its not the tracks fault. A lot they have to sort out..

I would be really shocked, and disapointed if they didn't give you a discount on next year's pass. We've missed what 4 races? Take the price of 4 or 5 off next years pass atleast. I couldn't see them not doing atleast that. Like they are not losing money having you at a race next year for "free" but if they don't I'm sure many people won't come back and that will cost them $$$. So everyone is upset, but whats in the tracks best interest is your best interest and vice versa. Give them some time to work it out.

I don't beleive that Derek would ignore you, just in his postion, with drivers screaming since it was sunny and everything, I think you are getting the response of asking a question of someone thats having a really bad day...

Again that you would take the day or part off work, plus invest in the track for a seaons pass, plus drive from Toronto, is a HUGE compliment to all us drivers.

Yea there's a lot of us like that Ross...I talk to some of the very same people week after week over in Turn-2..... I come from Pickering..and fight the stop & go traffic on the 401 almost every week.  Beacuse we love watching you guys race....It's a great track..and a great bunch of drivers. It's just really to bad that they already have a farily short season and all these rainouts are not helping.  Theres no reason they can't try to do re-do the Wendsay race in a few weeks...last year they did it in September and it was a great car count...and a nice size crowd.

All in all if the weather wasn't so horrible this year we wouldn't have this problem.  The part about being ignored is more related to a email blast I got from Derek a couple years ago when I was told i know nothing about racing so i was to stay out of problems at the track.  I will not go talk to Derek at the numerous NASCAR events that I am attending this year and discuss Kawartha issues as that is not why he is there.  However I have tried to offer ways to help in letting people know as quick as possible for rain outs because I do want to see Kawartha get better and better.  Unfortunately it seems that it has fallen on deaf ears.

I will always support the drivers from Kawartha as they are doing something which I wish I had the resources to try and do myself.  Not only does it look like a challenge and fun on the track but the stories of how the teams work together in the pits acting as one family is great to hear.

So we'll see what happens for the remainder of this season, maybe the weather clouds will all go away and there will be no more rainouts this year and thus the teams can get back to doing what they want most and thats racing.  If I was in charge of compensating season pass holders I would say $30 for front gate pass holders and $50 off for pit pass holders if there are no more rainouts.  Cause in all reality it was our choice to buy the season pass and we have to accept some of the risk.  jmo anyways.   ;)

The division was called Street Stock when Warbutton won his championships. The naming of the division went Street Stock -> Challenger -> Limited Late Model.
