Flamboro Speedway – Gold Rush Recap
After all the hype over the past couple of weeks, the Gold Rush would deliver on the action promised on Sunday afternoon at Flamboro Speedway.
Pro Late Models
The day would start off with group qualifying for the Late Models, with past track champion Shawn Chenoweth setting quick time at 15.150 seconds. Chenoweth would elect to start the 100-lap feature from the tail of the field, electing to chase after $10,000 rather than the $5,000 payday.
Matt Lockwood and J.R. Fitzpatrick would lead the field to the green flag, which wouldn’t last long as the caution flew on Lap 1 for Mike Westwood spinning off turn two. There would be two more cautions in the first eight laps, including an incident between Trevor Mornaghan and Lane Zardo, which saw Zardo’s day end early.
With Fitzpatrick leading early ahead of Lockwood and Dale Shaw, contact was the name of the game in the back half with four more cautions flying before there were 30 laps on the board, due to a series of spins. A stretch through the middle of the race worked out in Jake Sheridan’s favor, as he made his way into second ahead of Shaw and Blair Wickett, before the eighth yellow flag at Lap 51.
The second half featured close racing at the front of the field, but it was all J.R. Fitzpatrick as he showed the way en route to scoring the victory in the 2018 edition of the Gold Rush, taking home the $5,000 cheque in the process. Jake Sheridan continues his impressive start to Pro Late Model racing with a runner-up finish ahead of Dale Shaw and Blair Wickett.
Shawn Chenoweth made his way from the back to finish fifth ahead of Billy Schwartzenburg, Kevin Albers, Hudson Nagy, Tim Norris, Mat Box, and Nick Troback. Gary Elliott and Matt Lockwood ran up front throughout the event, but were involved in a last-lap crash, resulting in them finishing 12th and 13th, respectively. Chris Howse finished 14th, followed by Trevor Monaghan, Kevin Trevellin, Allie Ditner, Brian Prescetti, Mike Westwood, Jordan Howse, and Lane Zardo.

Pure Stocks
With 29 cars on the property, qualifying well was important with Jordan Morris showing the way as he posted the quick time at 19.633 seconds. Morris would elect to give up the pole to start from the tail of the field and go for the double payday.
Their feature would go caution-free with battles through the field as Karl Sault added another win to his season with the victory. Leo Labarbera finished second, followed by Courtney Scott, Gillian Hils, and David Rockwood. Jordan Morris made his way back up to sixth after starting last, followed by Gary Slama, Dale Lucas, Mark Thorne, Andrew Castelein, Nick Clarke, Clinton Kerkhoff, Dylan Sharpe, Matt Young, Wayde Thorne, Blair Mayhew, Chris Pendlebury, Michael Kenny, Matt Bentley, Keara Gallant, Scott Brooks, Matt Dopp, Conor Mahoney, Reuben Fluit, and Chris Cambridge. A couple cars ran into mechanical problems including Phil Givens, Blake Near, and Joe Snow, while Steve DeLeeuw failed to start.

The action at Flamboro Speedway isn’t set to slow down as this Saturday, August 25, will see the OSCAAR Modifieds and Pro Sprints make their second stop of the 2018 campaign. On top of that, Saturday is also the Jukasa Motor Speedway Super Stock qualifier, meaning the feature winner will be locked into the field for the Canadian Nationals on Labor Day weekend at Jukasa, which pay $5,000 to win for the Super Stocks.
These three great divisions will be joined by the Pro Late Models, Mini Stocks, and Pure Stocks on Saturday night at Flamboro Speedway.
