I noticed a couple of cars at sunset on Saturday that could get into the turns well and make up a lot of ground on cars but getting out of the turn into the straight away they lost what they gained what causes this?

Rear end Gears can be set fast into the corner a deeper run or fast out of the corner shorter burst. A choice depending also on other parts of the set up as well as braking ability and grooves. For some guys what they are comfortable with.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess some drivers are still trying to figure out the new track as setups from last year will not work as well this year.

Perhaps I should have also added that breaking a corner down generally speaking if you have a good entrance it is the basis of a good exit if your entrance is bad you are set up for a bad exit. This is where you hear the terms push and loose used a lot.

What is most likely happening is the driver is overdriving into the corner and missing the apex causing him to have to wait on the car to turn before getting back on the gas for corner exit.

If you want a visual of who enters and exits well Brandon Watson would be perfect. If you look at the Oscaar or lm races this weekend youll see what I mean he follows the curve in and out imo

The apex is not always available in a race besides a lot of times the driver who is inexperienced does not necessarily relate back to the crew the right messages about what is going on in the corner. You can bet your top runners know. Wernham you are right about the overdrive, experience shows the fast guys are pretty smooth almost anywhere in the corners
until tires come into play.

My car is a good example of what Evan is talking about. Mine is 100% a gearing issue, that will be fixed for this weekend. My motor is just getting into it's power range at the end of the straightaway and rolls through the corner very well, but is a dog comming out due to the gear ratio that is in the car currently.

jibbyjebidiah what is your car number and what class do you race in?

Best quick fix of this problem is to back up your corner. By that I mean let off a little earlier. You will gain a little less going in, but you wont push through centre giving you a better exit off, thus not loosing as much down the straight. And this will also cool you tires down a little, saving them for when you need to throw it in hard. I will go through my in car videos, and see if i have examples.

that is true dan, but ill have different gears for this weekend and everything should be much better!
-
Sweet! Can't wait. I'm gonna try to loossen up the car this weekend, too bad practice was cancelled this week.
-
It was the same issue with us, gear gear gear. The car turned better in the feature but I WAS WAY OFF on the gear selection. Nothing worse than getting a run on a car in the corner and the car is a dog coming out. We will have that fixed for Saturday and hopefully not get lapped again, lol.

Take it from and old man boys, there is no better friend to a race car on a banked track than stager, and lots of it. 4 inches at least on the back. Give it a try you will be amazed. Trust me boys, Trust me.

I ran a 195/60 on the right side, and a 175/65 on the left, this past Sunday in a heat race. Should have gone to the drift track instead with that set-up, I thought the track had turned to ice.

A 195 or a 175 does not matter it is how round they are , ( like 85 inches and 81 inches ) back right 85 back left 81, works like a charm. These numbers are just an example .
