The 51st season at Brighton Speedway came to a close on Sunday, September 30th with the annual Lange & Fetter Ford Eve of Destruction presented by Hotch’s Auto Parts, Brighton Recycling and Workman’s OK Tire & Auto.  With demolition and excitement all day long, fans packed the stands and participants lined the pits to partake in the fun.  Over 230 entries to the day’s events made the action non-stop and kept the fans in the stands.

The day kicked off with the Hotch’s Auto Parts Junior Enduro Race. Participants ranging in age from 14 to 18 took the first green flag of the day on a slippery surface that had been watered naturally by Mother Nature.  The 25-lap feature event ended with No. 707 Brock Sallans crossing the finish line first, followed by N0. 18 Carter Rhodes, No. 727 Kaitlyn Lafonte, No. 07 Anthony Rinaldi and rounding out the top 5 was No. 13 Keltin McLean.

The Hotch’s Auto Parts Ladies Enduro was next up and 26 cars took to the track to compete.  This 30-lap feature was fast and the field quickly spread out.   Chantel Golden in the No. 707 succeeded in holding the top position as No. 757 Patricia Maat and No. 613 Stephanie Sambey kept close on her heels.  The top 5 were rounded out with No. 513 Jasmine Pavoni in fourth and No. 69 Patty Simpson in fifth.

With 130 cars lined up on the 1/3rd mile clay oval, the Hotch’s Auto Parts 100 Lap Endurance Race was jammed pack.  Four and five wide these cars were travelling around the track as their scorers persevered through drizzling rain to support their drivers.   No. 11f Adam Flieler was the first to complete 100 laps after a lengthy race.  Next with 98 laps was No. 29k Kenny Ohno Jr and then No. 777 Jan Maat, No. 627 Nate Levac and No. 42jr Aidan Fletcher finished the top five with 94 laps on the books.  Derrick Greig took home the Best Appearing Car accolades in his minion decorated car.

Amongst the fun and excitement of the Enduro Races the Workman OK Tire & Automotive School Bus races were taking place.  The flagship class is always up for entertaining our loyal fans and they do not disappoint for excitement.  The feature event had rookie driver No. 28 Kyle Rhebergen passing veterans and making tracks towards the checkered flag when veteran No. 77 Bernie Rhebergen punted his son out of the lead.  The roars from the fans were fantastic and the entertainment continued until the final flag was thrown. The lineup at the checkered flag was No. 77, No. 44 Jim Perry, No. 28, No. 55 Paul Quick and No. 3 Dean LeClair.

Even though the day was already well on its way the action was still hot on the track.  The Trailer Race took to the track with 7 entries and the finish was determined after 15 laps and only one trailer remained attached.  No. HAF Elaine Brown was a rookie to the event and succeeded in dominating the field.  The Best Appearing Trailer Display was awarded to No. 51 Mike Freeman for his presentation and appearance.

An unbelievable 18 participants lined up to participate in the 10 lap Flag Pole Race.    The crazy antics of this crew was fun to watch and finishing the number of required laps was No. 17a Derek Anderson, No. 80x Jeremy Kelly and No. 7 Austin Simpson.  Long Jump was won after a jump off by No. 29x Ken Ohno Jr and the Brighton Recycling Demo Derby the Conlin Brothers, Frank and Eric finishing 1st and 2nd respectively and John Kehoe coming in 3rd.

Highlights on the day included Promoter Mark Rinaldi attempting to beat the 6 crash cars in the Gauntlet but damage to the limo early put him out of contention.  In an attempt to redeem himself he sought to jump the school bus during the Long Jump Competition.  The long wheel base made it tricky but the entertainment value was second to none.

With all of this excitement on a damp dreary day, fans and participants stuck it out and enjoyed the day right up until the final flag dropped on the Demo Derby.  The Brighton Speedway will be back at it in the spring of 2019 with a fun filled, action packed schedule of events.  Be sure to like the Facebook page to keep apprised of upcoming sales or information on the next season.
