RACINE & MURDOCH ON TOP AT THE BEACH WITH THE LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets battled at the beach in a double header Civic Holiday long weekend Saturday and Sunday night at Sauble Speedway’s Beat the Heat.  Running a new racing format for the remainder of the season, The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets run two features on race night.

Adam Racine was victorious winning three more features this past weekend bringing his Feature Win total to nine so far in 2017.

Racine won back to back Features Sunday night earning that coveted surf board as his trophy.

“I don’t have a surf board yet, I’ve always wanted one.  I won last night and I couldn’t get it done for the second time and I was jealous because I really want that surf board.  To win here with my family and for them to come out for the victory, I’m really speechless.  I’m living the dream.”

“The car was perfect.  My Crew Chief, he doesn’t tell me what he does, he just does stuff and somehow the thing goes even faster.  I knew I had to be really aggressive because the 50 (Adrian Stahle) is fast and the 12 (Darren Dryden) is fast and seeing the 40 car (driven by Jeff Blackburn) start up front kind of scared me, so I had to go fast.  Thanks again to all the fans; hopefully we put on a great show. Thanks to my family and my sponsors, Dettmer Tirecraft Auto Center in Kitchener, Retail Design Group, T-Weber Oil Spraying and Paving, and Schwartz Custom Fabrication.”

The first feature Sunday night began with a caution on the very first lap as Barry Dunn cut down on Steven Murdoch sending him into the wall destroying the car and ending his night while the 40 car, driven for the weekend by Jeff Blackburn, spun to avoid the incident going into turn one.

With Dunn being sent to the back of the field for the restart and Murdoch towed to the pits, done for the night, Racine’s original seventh place starting spot now became a fifth place starting spot.

By lap 2, Racine had charged forward into second passing pole sitter Lucas Munsie and Dominique Smith.  One lap later, Racine was making quick work of the leader, Ryan Fraser, going side by side into turn 3 and completing the pass coming out of turn 4.  Fraser had restarted in fourth.

Once out in front the top 3 cars of Racine, Fraser and Stahle started to pull away from Daniel Bois in fourth and Dunn who had settled into fifth.

Lap 5 Stahle was able to challenge and make a pass on Fraser for second going down the back stretch.

Back in the pack Darren Dryden was in the mix with Smith, Munsie and Cory Whittam challenging for position coming out of turn 4 and going down the front stretch.  When all was settled Dryden has advanced one position into seventh.

Still on the move forward Whittam and Dryden were able to catch the back of Dunn on lap 14, with Whittam making the pass on Dunn first and Dryden following the on lap 15.  Three laps later Dryden completed the pass on Whittam, entering the top 5.

With the laps quickly winding down to the checkers, the field remained unchanged with Racine leading followed by Stahle, Fraser, Bois, and Dryden rounding out the top five.

Due to the 12 car of Dryden failing to scale, his fifth place finish was disqualified, leaving Whittam with a top 5 finish.

In the second feature of the night, it was Racine in Victory Lane again.

With the field inverted for the start of Feature #2, Munsie held the inside pole while Blackburn held the outside pole.

At the drop of the green it was Blackburn who quickly took the lead pulling away from the field while Dunn, who started fourth, moved up to second by the second lap.

As Dunn was trying to reel in Blackburn, Racine was making quick progress working his way through the field charging forward.

Racine, who started ninth, was already in the top three by lap 5 passing Munsie on the inside of turn 4 knocking him into fourth while further back in the pack Bois, Stahle, Whittam and Dryden were all bunched trying to jock for position.

By lap 8 Racine had caught Blackburn coming out of turn 4 going down the front stretch and finally making the pass between turns 1 and 2.  Racine had started in tenth.

With Racine in the lead, Blackburn holding onto second, Dunn occupied third, Munsie held onto fourth and Stahle rounded the top 5.

Two laps later Stahle was moving forward getting around Munsie in turn 3 and catching Dunn the very next lap to settle into third.

While there was movement up front with the leaders, Munsie started to fall letting Bois get by him knocking him out of the top 5.  The next lap around Dryden followed suit getting by Munsie.

At the half way point Bois had caught up to Dunn getting by him for fourth bring along Dryden on the next lap.

Lap 16 Stahle who was running third had caught up to the second place car of Blackburn overtaking him in turn 3.

Racine now had almost a straightaway’s lead over Stahle and Blackburn in second and third while Stahle and Blackburn had almost the same lead over Bois and Dryden in fourth and fifth.

With 4 laps to go Dryden was able to make a pass on Bois getting alongside him in turns 3 and 4 and down the front stretch finally making the pass going to Bois inside in turn 1.

The rest of the field remained unchanged until the checkers flew earning Racine another Feature win.
