Campbell Wins JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Fall Brawl Event

Final Four Drivers set to Race for the Series Championship at Winchester

Salem, IN. (September 25, 2017) – Michigan veteran racer Brian Campbell has become a huge fan of Lucas Oil Raceway and the  CRA Fall Brawl Presented by EDCO Welding event, as he went to victory lane in the Hart’s Auto Center 100 Presented by JEGS.com Sunday afternoon at the famed oval located just outside of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana. For Campbell it was his fourth time getting a win in the event and collecting the events signature trophy that includes a pair of boxing gloves.

“Man I really love this place and we always seem to run good in this event,” remarked Campbell in victory lane. “This is four pairs of boxing gloves we’ve collected in this event, the first with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, my kids love them. Carson (Hocevar) had a good car, it would have been a good battle with him to see who would have won. Got to thank all my guys, they work hard on this car and Terry Senneker for giving us a great piece to race with!”

Fury Race Cars Fast Qualifier Michael Clancy Jr. drew a nine for the race invert, putting Austin Kunert on the pole. Kunert took full advantage and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. VanDoorn Racing Development Rookie point’s leader Carson Hocevar quickly came from his seventh place starting position to battle side by side with Kunert for the lead. Hocevar got a nose ahead on lap five, Kunert lead laps six and seven, but Hocevar was able to pull off the pass and took the lead again on lap eight.

Hocevar pulled out to a sizable lead as Campbell worked his way from his eighth place starting position to second and was trying to close on Hocevar, when Hocevar’s car suddenly slowed and came to a stop on the backstretch on lap 52, bringing out the caution and handing the lead to Campbell. Hocevar’s day was done with a failed fuel pump. Luckily Hocevar was the only driver already locked into the series Championship Chase Final Four to race for the series 2017 Championship with his win earlier in the month at Winchester Speedway.

Campbell pulled away at the drop of the green flag on lap 53 and was never challenged, winning by over two seconds. The win was Campbell’s second JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour win of the season, he also won at Berlin Raceway in July. Campbell picked up a Great Lakes Tire/Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award. Campell’s other three Fall Brawl wins were with the ARCA/CRA Super Series.

One of the best battles in the second half of the race was for second place between last year’s event winner Jeff Cannon and Thomas Woodin. Woodin had battled a lot of bad luck during the 2017 season, but put that all behind him Sunday by getting is best ever CRA finish of second after a late pass of Cannon to get the position. Woodin earned the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race for his pass of Cannon. Woodin’s crew picked up the PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Race Award for their hard on their car over the weekend.

Cannon would finish in third place. Bowling Green, Kentucky native Dillon Oliver raced from the back of the field after pulling his car out of impound to get a fourth place finish, picking up the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move of the Race Award.

Austin Kunert raced in the top five all day and got a fifth place finish, giving him enough points to be in the series Championship Chase Final Four. Kunert earned the FLUIDYNE High Performance Cool Under Pressure Award for his finish and getting the points needed to race for the series Championship on October 6th.

Ben Welch would finish in sixth place. Jack Dossey III would finish in seventh place and also lock himself into the Championship Chase Final Four, avoiding disaster on lap 60, when two cars tangled in front of the field, Dossey III spun to avoid the wreck, barely missing the inside wall.

Chis Koslek finished in eighth. Alec Carll came from his 19th place starting position to finish in ninth, picking up a Great Lakes Tire/Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award. Anthony Danta finished in 10th while Hope Hornish finished in 11th, earning the Van Doorn Racing Development Rookie of the Race Award.

Clancy Jr. had his day end on lap 60 after hard contact with the front stretch wall, after contact with another car on a restart. Clancy Jr., who was running third at the time of his crash, was still able to advance on points to the Championship Chase Final Four. Hocevar, Dossey III, Kunert and Clancy Jr. will all race for the series 2017 Championship on Friday, October 6th at Winchester Speedway, as part of the 46th Annual Winchester 400 Weekend. The highest finisher in the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com will be the 2017 series Champion, in the series first year using the Championship Chase format.

The four Chase drivers not advancing to race for the Championship included Woodin, who came up just short in points with his great run at Lucas Oil Raceway. Also not advancing were Hornish, Jack Smith and Thomas Hufferd, but all four will still be racing for their important final spots in the series final season points at Winchester.
