COLLINS, SUTTIE CELEBRATE FIRST WINS ON 660 KIDS DAY

(GEARY, NB – June 3rd, 2018) - It was a big afternoon for longtime Speedway 660 racers Curtis Collins (Saint John) and Bryan Suttie (Keswick) as both scored emotional first wins at the track during Kids Day.

Collins, the reigning Rookie of the Year in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, started on the pole after winning his heat race and led wire-to-wire in a caution free 40-lap feature. The win for Collins was his first in a Late Model Sportsman after beginning his career in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division.

“It feels so good to finally step foot in victory lane again,” said Collins after the feature. “I was saving a little bit for the end. If we had a caution near the end I would have had to hustle the car a bit harder because I knew they were catching me.”

Collins dedicated the win to his Mother, who passed away over the off-season.

“There are so many folks I have to thank, from my sponsors to my crew and my Father who puts so much into this race car. This one is for everyone that has helped me and definitely for my Mom. This one is for my Mom.”

Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME), last week’s feature winner, drove from last in the 11-car field to finish second in the feature. Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) was third for a second straight week. Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) and Richard Atkinson (Geary) completed the top five.

Joining Collins in winning a heat race was Ryan Raynes (Saint John).

Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters veteran Suttie was emotional in victory lane as he scored his first career feature victory on Kids Day. Suttie, who has raced in the division for six years, took the lead after BJ Gillespie (Nackawic) faltered on a late race restart and held off sophomore Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Frederiction) after Kennie mounted a late race challenge for the win.

“I’m speechless,” said Suttie after climbing from the car. “This is a great group of guys to race with. It’s been a long journey but we finally did it!”

Kennie was second, followed by a returning Malcolm Suley. Rookie Randy Titus (French Late) and Gillespie completed the top five in the 20-lap feature.

Gillespie and Brody Levesque (Fredericton) won qualifying heat races. Levesque, winner of the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener, snapped an axle on Lap 12 which ended his day after running in the top three.

Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) scored his second Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division feature victory in as many weeks. O’Blenis and Greg Fahey (St. Stephen) had to fight back from the rear of the field following a caution just past the halfway point in the 50-lap feature. While O’Blenis went on to victory, Fahey would recover for third behind Ryan Messer (Harvey).

“I don’t even know what happened,” said O’Blenis when asked about the incident with Fahey in Turn Three. “We touched and I don’t know if our wheels climbed each other or what. It wasn’t an intentional deal, I don’t think either of our cars got hurt in it. We had a good car today and it showed.”

Brent Roy (Hanwell) and Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton) rounded out the top five. Roy and O’Blenis won Pro Stock heats.

Roger Slocum (Chipman) returned to victory lane for the first time since last July by winning the DMR Auto Sales and Service Street Stock feature. Slocum won his heat and showed the way during the 30-lap feature. He was challenged by last week’s winner Justin Cole (Harvey) but got caught up with Rick Cashol (Saint John) during the battle for the lead.

Riley Goodwin (MacAdam) kept Slocum on his toes but would wind up finishing second. Benji Ruff (Carlow) was third, followed by Chris Hanley (St. Stephen) and Courtney Barton (Minto).

Goodwin won the first heat race on the afternoon in the Street Stock division.
