Old racing pictures
« on: July 11, 2007, 06:34:12 PM »
There seems to be some interest in this and I've seen it be one of the most popular and positive parts of other boards.

Here are some great pics sent to me by racenut from the 1970s at Flamboro and Cayuga.

The Fireball 5 was a fast runner in the Modified Sportsman class driven by Earl Stroh (I think:))

#53 Bill Watson at Flamboro

The Coca-Cola Firebird of Earl Ross in 1976 back home again in an Ontario victory lane after demise of the Carling deal in Winston Cup

Michigan's Jerry "The Bear" Makara ran a yellow #42 to victories and championships a-plenty in Ontario from his summer "home" in Ancaster.

Stay tuned for more ...

This next two have to be posted together.

Joe Ruttman in his near unstoppable AVC Camaro in 1975.

The car was later sold and campaigned by Dutch DeBoer.

More cool 70s pics from racenut.

Ralph Book's familiar black and yellow Camaro at Flambor circa 1975.

The Windsor Automotive Camaro of Speedy Jack Monaghan.

Jr. Hanley winning in an orange #72. How 70s is that?

Bill Lyons in the #9 Coach Hobby car at Flamboro (Not Steve, thanks racenut! Least I didn't call him Scott:))

 Great pics statman .

On the hood of Makara s #42 car in that pic was the the words "Ye though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death I shall fear no evil for I am the meanest son of a bitch in the valley" I always got a kick out of that.

It's actually Billy Lyons in the #9 Hobby car (Red Cap Racers back then). The #9 was one of my favourites back then. Watched him at Speedway Park and then Flamboro. I've still got my autographed picture from an old 1974 Wheelspin at Speedway Park from Lyons framed and hanging up. My buddy's favourite driver was Earl Stroh in the Fireball 5. The car was unbeatable. The car was sold to Fred Poets and changed to #54 (I have a photo of this as well). The picture of the #5 shown is the next generation of Earl's car, not quite as dominant.

Great pics and keep them coming as this was the generation of racing that was fun for both the fans and the teams. Its to bad that racing had to change that much from then. I think I can still name every Driver that ran at Flamboro in both the Hobby Cars and the Late Models.
My memory may be getting a little worn out on day to day things, but give me a program from the 70's and all of a sudden its back.
Again, great photo's, great memory's, and keep them coming.

I was at flamdega the night  ruttman and some others from the US. came for a 100 lapper that had been rained out on the sat.  and was run on the following monday or wednesday . it's a long time ago ( i rode my bicycle from dundas ,15 years old)but i seem to remember randy sweet, bob seneker, maybe ed howe being there and something about jack cook running a full tube chassis for the first time.
I do remember Ruttman spanked the field

That's fantastic.

If an enduro car at Delaware put that on the hood today - - I think they'd have to give him the front row.  It surprises me that more drivers don't do things like this today.  The most recent "creative" thing I can think of is when Perkins' #3 put "Art Vandaley" on their hood as "Vandaley Industries" as the sponsor...  Seinfeld reference anyone?

That's a cool Seinfeld hood :)

Here's a few more from the archives.

The Aurora Flash Fred Bullen at Cayuga in the Mister Transmission Chevelle

Factory Jack Cook had Kohler engines on the side of his SLM and rode in snowmobile races for them in the winter.

As I recall Bullen and Cook's cars were built by American racer Bob James. Not completely sure if I have that right.

Norm Lelliott in the Castrol Chevelle "computer car"

Ralph Book's Dodge at Cayuga.
