(December 17th, 2008) - Next on our docket of the 2008 review is the Legends division. The Legends are 5/8-scale replicas of the '34 and '37 Chevrolet and Ford (coupes and sedans) models that can produce some fierce races when the green flag is thrown on race day!

The legends race under two banners at Scotia Speedworld. Some events are sanctioned by the Maritime Legends Tour, which sees action at tracks such as Riverside Speedway, Speedway 660, Riverglade Speedway and Raceway Park. When the legends are not racing under the Legends Tour, they race weekly on Scotia's 3/10th's mile oval. The first race of '08 was a Tour race, which was won by local favourite Ray Cox Jr. (Porters Lake). Ray moved from racing in the Sportsman division to the Legends division in '07.

Q104 Night at Scotia Speedworld turned into the "invasion of Berry Mills"; Former Speedway 660 Pro Stock drivers Ian Mollins and Darren Sherwood of Berry Mills, New Brunswick turned up at Scotia Speedworld on May 30th with their Legend cars and finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the Feature. Multi-time Canadian Legend champ Cy Harvey (Elmsdale) finished 2nd on the night.

Ian MollinsAnother former Pro Stock racer would took his turn in Victory Lane on Wallace Equipment night on June 13th as Ed Hayden beat Justin MacNeill, both from Bedford, for the win. Ironically, those two racers tied for the Legends title at Scotia Speedworld in 2005, with MacNeill winning the tiebreaker due to more Feature wins. Moncton's Gary Bursey (another one of those Pro Stock drivers) piloted his #65 Sugar Shack Construction car to 3rd, making Bursey the third driver from the Greater Moncton area to put himself on the podium at Scotia in the first two races of the season.

The Legends raced next on June 27th as Jeff Decoffe (Bedford) doubled down en route to winning the Feature that night in the #3 car usually driven by Vance Hanes. With a strong run by MacNeill, the #10 Legend car assumed the weekly points lead at Scotia Speedworld.

Ian Mollins once again visited Victory Lane on July 5th as part of Maritime Legends Tour. He was followed by weekly points leader MacNeill and May 24th winner Cox Jr. Cox Jr. held a slim twelve point lead in the Legend Tour points heading out of Scotia that night.

Mollins closed the gap on MacNeill in the weekly points by winning for the second straight week at Scotia. The #10 car was in his tire tracks though, as MacNeill finished 2nd ahead of "The Legend," Cy Harvey. The gap between the top two was now only two points, with the #10 leading the #25.

MacNeill once again proved he was a title contender by taking the win on Bargain Hunter night. He brought Mollins and Harvey across the line to extend his points lead to four points over the Berry Mills driver.

"The Legend" was the winner of the next Legends race on August 9th. The race was a Tour race and the under card to the Atlantic CAT 250 PASS North race. MacNeill and Hayden completed the podium finishers on Scotia's biggest night!

The Hi-Tech Power Sports #25 visited Victory Lane again the next week as Mollins stormed to the points lead by beating Harvey and Steve Pye (Lantz) on Canadian Forces Appreciation Night. MacNeill finished fifth on the night and now had a six point hole to dig out of before the end of the season.

The top two flip flopped the next week on C&R Auto Supply Night as Harvey edged Mollins and Pye for the win. MacNeill captured fourth but now had a fifteen point deficit to make up with two races to go.

Mollins and Harvey ran one-two again on September 5th as the two bested the #10 car of MacNeill on the podium. This would set up a showdown for the following week, as Mollins had a 16 point lead on MacNeill in the weekly point standings and a 23-point lead on Chris Johnson (Halifax) in the Tour points, heading into the final weekend for each series.

Though the competition was fierce on track, the top two from both nights on Finale Weekend were the same with Ian Mollins beating Justin MacNeill both nights. Mollins would end up taking away both titles that weekend at Scotia Speedworld. He is also the highest finishing Canadian in the INEX Pro Series Point Standings, which is something to be proud of for the Berry Mills resident.

Next week we conclude our '08 review with the top weekly division at Scotia Speedworld, the C&R Auto Supply Sportsman. It's all right here - at ScotiaSpeedworld.ca!
