BUTCHER BEST OF FIELD HEADING INTO ATLANTIC TILTLOAD MARITIME LEAGUE OF LEGENDS STOP AT PETTY RACEWAY
(Wednesday, August 19th - Dartmouth, NS) - The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends heads to Petty International Raceway on Saturday, August 22nd for their only stop in the province of New Brunswick for the 2015 season. The 50-lap feature will be a part of the 51st Jones Auto Body River Glade International weekend at the high banked, 1/3-mile River Glade, New Brunswick oval and will also see features by the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock and Atlantic Modified Tours on the same card. Racing action gets underway with qualifying for all three divisions at 6pm.
Last Saturday, Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) completed a sweep of races at Riverside International Speedway with his win in the Cummins 50. Combined with his win at the high banked James River, Nova Scotia oval in July at the Brycon Construction 50, he has successfully won both races contested at the track. Butcher has won three of the five races thus far on the 2015 season and now finds himself atop of the point standings heading into a Petty International Raceway track that he finished fourth at one year ago.
It was a race of inches for third place last week on track at Riverside International Speedway, and the same two drivers will be looking to battle it out again at Petty International Raceway as they sit second and third in the standings. Reigning champion Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS) edged out Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) on a last lap pass in the Cummins 50 for the final podium position in the race and now sit separated by seven points in the championship chase. Both have experienced success at Petty International Raceway, with both appearing on the podium in this event in 2014.
Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) and Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie, NS) complete the top five in the point standings after five events and find themselves at opposite ends of the momentum scale after last Saturday. Goulden, who led the point standings for a majority of the season, went for a wild ride in his heat race, rolling his #57 Ford multiple times before coming to rest near the Turn Two wall at Riverside International Speedway. Goulden emerged sore but otherwise okay from the scary wreck and will have to work hard to get his car in race ready condition for Petty International Raceway on Saturday.
Tanner continues to improve with every race in his rookie season. Tanner, a former two-time Bandolero champion at Petty International Raceway, is the top freshman on the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour and is riding a string of four top five finishes heading into the sixth round of the series Saturday night. Tanner has the knowledge of the track and seat time in the car obtained this season to potentially become the second rookie driver to win an Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour feature, joining two-time 2015 feature winner and the 2014 Petty International Raceway Bandolero champion Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB).
Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) swept both races for the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour at Petty International Raceway in 2014 en route to the Rookie of the Year award last season. Naugle, who sits sixth in the standings, has experienced a season full of ups and downs, including a season low 21st place finish at Riverside International Speedway in the Cummins 50 last week. Naugle will look to snap out of his sophomore slump with his first Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour win of the season Saturday night.
Also joining Hall representing New Brunswick in the 50-lap feature on Saturday night will be Darren Sherwood (Moncton, NB). Sherwood is a multiple time Legend car feature winner but has taken some time off in the last few seasons. Sherwood will drive the #33 Red Rock Harley Davidson entry owned by Gary Dunning of Charlottetown, PE. Dunning drove the car to a sixth place finish in the Action Car and Truck Accessories 50 at Oyster Bed Speedway on August 1st.
The event will also feature a number of the best Legend car drivers on the East Coast, including Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), Brad Brown (Halifax, NS), Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake, NS), Arnie Spinney (Coldbrook, NS), rookies Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS), Craig Chisholm and Kevin MacDonald, both of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, among others.
The final race of the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour will be contested on Sunday, October 11th at Atlantic Motorsports Park in North Salem, Nova Scotia. The R&D Performancenter Road Course Challenge marks the only start for an oval, stock car touring series on the road course outside of Shubenacadie and will be the championship round for the series.
Saturday’s pit gates for competitors in the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour 50-lap feature open at 12:30pm. Grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm, with qualifying action beginning at 6pm. Adult grandstand admission is $30 on Saturday, youth admission (ages eight to 18) is $10 while children seven and under are admitted free of charge. The event also includes the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Parts for Trucks 150 and an Atlantic Modified Tour 35-lap feature. The event is a part of the 51st Jones Auto Body River Glade International.
