Marshall Claims Vintage Modifieds Round 7 at Delaware

By Clayton Johns

KOMOKA, Ont. (July 26, 2015) – TJ Marshall (No.15 Sweers Custom Painting) snuck beneath Steve Trendell (No.57 Combined Auto & Truck Repair) amidst lapped traffic after taking the white flag and led the most important lap to claim his second win of the season with the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modified Series at Delaware Speedway.

Cassidy March (No.25 H&M Auto) and Ben Charbonneau (No.2 Steve Scherer Chevrolet) brought the 17-car field, which included five American drivers from the VROA club, to the green flag for the 25-lap main event.

Charbonneau took the early lead, but was under fire from Jeremy Riopelle (No.88 Young Drivers) for the point position. On lap three, however, the sixth-place starting Trendell passed both drivers to take over the lead.

Two laps later, Marshall found his way to the second spot after bouncing back to fourth in the opening two laps. The two drivers ran 1-2 for the next 19 laps.

As the laps ticked away, Trendell reached heavy lapped traffic allowing Marshall to close to the back bumper of the No.57. On the final lap, Trendell picked the wrong lane to work through the traffic. Marshall filled the gap and led just one lap, but it was the most important on route to the victory. The margin of victory was just 0.223 seconds.

In qualifying heat race action, Marshall narrowly held off Jason Keen (No.18 Oakville Auto & Diesel Machine Shop) to claim the victory by two car lengths or 0.135 seconds. In the second heat race, Trendell trumped Charbonneau and Riopelle to claim the win.

After 7 of 13 events this season, Trendell’s four second-place finishes have given him a lead over Keen in the standings by the slimmest of margins. Just one point separates the top two – Trendell’s 456 to Keen’s 455- in the battle for the championship. Riopelle, Charbonneau and Marshall complete the top-five in the standings.

The series shifts back to Flamboro Speedway for round eight this Saturday, August 1. For complete event details, visit www.flamborospeedway.ca (http://www.flamborospeedway.ca).

The series would like to thank VROA drivers Tom Boorsma, Randy Pierson, Lauren Peterson Jr., Loren Peterson III and Rob Parker for joining the show.

Two Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modified drivers - Trendell and Riopelle - travelled to Berlin Raceway in Michigan on July 25 to join in the VROA show.
