Parkhill’s Shawn Thompson was the man to beat on Saturday night at the Grand Bend Speedway.  The new father captured feature wins in the two highest profile divisions at the Speedway as he bested a small field of five Micro Sprints, handily distancing himself from second-place finisher Brett Vincent every lap.
In the Mini Truck division Thompson and Jesse Kennedy started on the front row, but Dave Sharpe and his #55 were on the move.  Kennedy led the first few laps, but after slipping up in turns three and four, Thompson took command, putting some distance between himself and the field.
Sharpe cleared Kennedy and started to reel in Thompson before a caution put him right on Shawn’s bumper for a restart.  The games continued on the next restart.  Thompson brought the field down slow, and when the green appeared Sharpe darted to the outside of Thompson and pulled even with him, but was black flagged for jumping the start.  Sharpe would go to the back, while Thompson had Kennedy easily covered.  In the second half of the event Sharpe sliced through the field, and recovered to run second again as he started to work Thompson.
The pair duelled for the final five laps, with Sharpe being faster getting off turn two, but not being able to draw alongside Thompson, while Shawn was quicker through three and four, allowing him to stretch the lead out just enough before getting to turns one and two again.
Thompson won the thriller by a car length over Sharpe with Kennedy third.
In the Mini Sprint division Scott Schloendorf and Nathan Allen traded the lead early, but Jonah Macko was on the charge.  He brought his #45 to the front and held off Schloendorf for the win, while Colton Becker rounded out the podium.
The Jr. Late Models saw David Nethercott lead early, but Jaxon Jacobs was on the charge.  He made his way to the head of the pack with Bailey Nethercott on his tail, but never able to mount enough of a rally to take the win away.  David Nethercott held off Jordan Lawrence to finish third.
The Jr. A class saw Dalen Martin move from the B division and capture a feature win in his first start in the division.  Devin Jarvis lost second place in a late scramble as Shelby Verheyen rallied to finish second, with Nic Ramsey coming home third.
In the B division, Blake Baigent took the lead early with Ray Morneau on his bumper.  Morneau stalked Baigent for the entire distance, but couldn’t close out the deal with a pass for the lead, finishing second.  Jack Macko was running third until turn four on the final lap, but contact ensued, and Tyson Steeper was able to sneak on to the podium.
