Kids Day Highlights Busy Sunday at Speedway 660

(GEARY, NB - May 30th, 2018) - After a busy Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener last Sunday, the cars and stars of Speedway 660 are back in action on Sunday, June 3rd. The popular Kids Day will be the feature attraction with racing in all four house divisions on track, including the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stocks, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, DMR Auto Street Stocks and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters. Post time for racing on Sunday is 2pm.

While the racing on track will leave fans young and young at heart on the edge of their seats, Kids Day is much more than just the action on the oval. The afternoon will begin with a meet and greet autograph session with the drivers in the pit area of the track beginning at 1pm. The approximately 45 minute session will give fans a chance to check out the race cars up close in a cold pit setting prior to the racing action going green at 2pm.

At intermission time, the Kids Day events continue with the annual Candy Scramble on the front straight. When the word is given, young fans will be able to take to the track and gather as much candy as they can before heading back to their seats to watch some exciting short track racing.

Kids Day is a continued effort to bring kids and families to the race track to enjoy an exciting afternoon of family oriented fun at a price that will not break the bank. Returning for 2018, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.

The “youth movement” on track can be seen in all four divisions but was on full display last Sunday during the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman feature. At 25 years of age, second place finisher Jacob Logan (Harvey) was the eldest driver on the podium during the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener in the Sportsman division. Winner Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) and third place finisher Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) are recent high school graduates and have to balance post secondary education along with chasing checkered flags.

Justin Cole (Harvey) and Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) discussed all winter about the chance to race door to door with each other. That first feature of the year in the DMR Auto Street Stock class went the way of Cole. The pair had to contend with youngster Riley Goodwin (MacAdam) for the win in the waning laps last Sunday and it has set the stage for an entertaining second round this weekend.

Brody Levesque (Oromocto) “dug his Sharp Shooter out of the leaves” and drove his Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter to a feature win during the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener. Levesque bested sophomore Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) and division veteran Bryan Suttie (Keswick) for his first win of the year. With six rookies in last weekend’s 11 car field, the division will surely see a change of guard as the 2018 season drives on into the summer months.

Not to be forgotten in all the conversation of kids and youth movement, Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) reminded those in the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division why he is a five time champion. O’Blenis had to outduel teenagers Ryan Messer (Harvey) and Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton) for the win on Sunday and will have to be on top of his game once again if he plans a repeat visit to Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane.

Adult grandstand admission price for Sunday’s Kids Day is $14 (aged 16 and up) with kids under the age of 16 admitted to the grandstand free of charge. Pit admission is $16 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 9:30am, grandstand gates open for spectators at 12pm, autograph sessions in the pit area at 1pm with racing getting underway at 2pm. A complete race day format will be available via Speedway660.com later in the week.

Speedway management would like to thank teams and fans for their donations during last Sunday’s Race for Hunger benefiting the Oromocto Food Bank. In addition to stuffing a van provided by Riverview Ford Lincoln with food donations, over $700 was also collected. Thank you to those who donated!
