LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS; STAHLE AND DRYDEN DOMINATE CANADA TOUGHEST OVAL

With the threat of rain all night, Mother Nature co-operated with The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets as they visited Canada’s toughest 1/3 mile Saturday night at Peterborough Speedway.
Adrian Stahle owned the Final Feature of the night after taking over the lead from Ryan Fraser on lap 7.  Stahle showed no signs of slowing down to tame the toughest oval.

“It was pretty fun.  We didn’t start that far back but it was a fun battle to the front and I’m happy to get the win.  Everyone was pretty close today on speed, at least the top runners; I had to pick the right time and the right spots to make my passes.  I would like to thank my crew, my dad, our sponsors Bell Cartage and Larka Custom Machining.  I have to say thanks to Lucas Oil and to all the fans for coming out.”
At the drop of the green it was pole sitter Fraser along side Brandon Zavarella as they battled side by side heading into turn one.    Dominique Smith who started third tried to get in the mix coming along side Zavarella coming out of turn 2 as Fraser was able to pull away with the lead.
Zavarella started to catch the tail of Fraser as Smith had a fast running Stahle occupying her back bumper.  Stahle made quick work of Smith knocking her to fourth as he laid sights on Zavarella.

Back in the rear of the field Lucas Munsie seemed to be fighting an ill handling race car, as he was slow off the pace.
Last year’s Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Champion Adam Racine started his movement forward from the seventh starting position bringing a very quick Darren Dryden along with him.

At the half way, point Stahle had a huge lead over Dryden who moved into second with Racine settling into third followed by Fraser in fourth and smith in fifth.
With Stahle, way out on front Dryden was on the wheel with some of the fastest lap times as he worked feverishly to reel in Stahle.
By lap 17 Stahle had caught the rear of the field and put Munsie a lap down.
As the checkered flag flew Dryden, whose time had run out, was a car length off Stahle’s bumper as Stahle captured another feature win.
The Final Feature finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday June 23/18 was; 1.  ADRIAN STAHLE, 2. Darren Dryden, 3. Adam Racine, 4. Steven Murdock, 5. Ryan Fraser, 6. Brandon Zavarella, 7. Dominique Smith, 8. Lucas Munsie
In the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget feature # 1 last years, Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Rookie of the year Smith held the pole with Munsie lining up on her outside.  Smith took off like a bullet at the drop of the green as Munsie fell to the back of the field settling in seventh.  Dryden who started in seventh had already shown incredible speed jumping into third on the first lap while Fraser claimed second.
Lap 2 Dryden was making a pass on Fraser in the middle of turns 3 and 4.
As Smith ran out in front with an 8-car lead, Dryden, Fraser, Murdock and Stahle all ran nose to tail in a four-way battle for position as they figured out the top 5.
With her lead over the field, Smith was no match for Dryden’s speed when he tracked her down and made the pass on lap 8 over taking her coming out of turn four.

As Dryden took the lead from Smith caution flew when Fenwick’s motor blew up leaving a streak of oil from the exit of turn 2 all the way into the entry to turn four where the car rested before catching fire.

Thanks to the quick response of the Lucas Oil Infield Officials, the fire was out within seconds and Fenwick was able to walk way unhurt as medics checked him before returning to the pits.

The top 5 on the restart was Dryden, Smith, Murdock, Racine, and Stahle.
When the green flag flew, again Dryden was off like a rocket as Murdock followed knocking Smith to third, while Stahle and Racine battled to figure out fourth and fifth.

With precise timing, Stahle was able to make a pass on Smith going to her inside in turn 4.  Hoping to take advantage of Stahle’s pass, Racine saw his opportunity but Smith shut him down.

At the white flag, Dryden had a 5-car lead over Murdock who also had a 5-car lead over Stahle.  The big question was; could Smith keep a charging Racine behind her for that last lap to claim a top 4 placement.

At the checkers, your top 5 Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget drivers over the line were Dryden, Murdock, Stahle, Smith and Racine.
The Feature Finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday June 23/18 was; 1. DARREN DRYDEN, 2. Steven Murdock, 3. Adrian Stahle, 4. Dominique Smith, 5. Adam Racine, 6. Brandon Zavarella, 7. Ryan Fraser, 8. Lucas Munsie, 9. Glen Fenwick
