2015 SEASON AT BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY ENDS WITH A BANG!

Dave Small Wins Monster Enduro on Eve of Destruction Night

By: Josh Gordon

BRIGHTON (October 3, 2015) - Cool temperatures and the threat of rain did not put a damper on the annual Lange and Fetter Ford Eve of Destruction. Fans packed into the one-third mile oval to witness some of the most hard-fought battles of the year including the 100-lap Monster Enduro and the Workmans OK Tire and Auto School Bus race.

Monster Enduro
The Hotch's Auto Parts Monster Enduro saw an impressive field of 88-car take the green for the 100-lap main event. At the halfway point of the race Nathan Mitchel (No. 347) was leading, but was soon forced to pit as a result of a flat tire. That opened the door for Dave Small (No. 24), who led the race the rest of the way and picked up the victory. Small finished a full two laps ahead of Steven Stachura (No. 169) and Mike Fountoukis (No. 02).

Junior Race
The Hotch's Auto Parts Junior Race saw 15 youngsters under the age of 18 take to the big stage at the Brighton Speedway.  Kenny Ohno (No. 29) led early but his big lead was shortened by a late caution. On the ensuing restart, Cameron Pederson (No. 22) took the lead and led the rest of the 30-lap feature.

Ladies Race
The Hotch's Auto Parts Ladies race saw the lead change numerous of times over the course of the 40-lap feature. Chantel Golden (No. 5) led the race early before engine troubles forced her into the pits. Michelle Macdonald (No. 16½) picked up the lead after Golden pit and it looked like she was going to run away with the race before she crashed coming out of turn four late in the race. After Macdonald crashed, Lisa Ryckman (No. 767) and Patricia Maat (No. 757) duked it out for the lead. When the checkered flag flew Ryckman barely edged Maat.

School Bus Race
Terry Hough (No. 32) and Jim Loveless (No. 43) started on the front row but both faded quickly. The rest of the field picked up the pace however as the 15-lap race featured a number of exciting passes by the long school buses. In the end, Jim Perry (No. 44) beat out Bernie Rhebelgen (No. 77) in the fun filled event. For Perry, it was a bit of redemption after finishing 11th in the first Workman's OK Tire and Auto School Bus Race earlier in the year.

Trailer Race
Twelve cars and their trailers started the 10-lap race and destruction ensued almost immediately. The object of the trailer race is to make it through the entire race with your trailer still attached to your car. If you lose your trailer you have to try and take out the other cars that still have trailers. When the checkered flew, Brighton Automotive Pro Stock point winner Justin Ramsay (No. 2) was the first car to cross with his trailer in tow. Brian Ryckman won the most original trailer with his double popup camper.

Flag Pole Race
An impressive 18-car field struggled to get around the Canadian Flag Pole that was placed on the front straightaway at the start of the 8-lap feature. All the bumping and battling did not slow down Charlie Pederson (No. 20), who was the first car to complete all his loops of the Flag Pole and cross the finish line. Stu Archer (No. 129) and Derek Anderson (No. 17) completed the top three in what was one of the most contested races of the afternoon.

The Gauntlet
Brighton Speedway's famous limousine once again made an appearance at the Eve of Destruction. This year, the five-car team of Megan Golden (No. 07), Alexander Woods (No. 99), Mike Beaudrie (No. 44), Mike Fountoukis (No. 02) and Steve Stachura (No. 169) were tasked with trying to stop the long limo from completing five laps. Despite some huge hits and strategic positioning from the team, they were unable to stop the flying limo after the five laps had elapsed.

Long Jump
Seven cars took a leap of faith on the backstretch of the one-third mile oval in the annual long jump competition. Fresh off his third place finish in the Flag Pole race, Derek Anderson (No. 17) stole the show, vaulting his car 51 feet to a first-place finish. Justin Ramsay (No. 2) finished second with a jump of 45 feet, while Ian Whalen took third after springing his car 37 feet.

Brighton Automotive Demolition Derby
The final event of the evening saw a number of cars attempt to crush each other in the Brighton Automotive Demolition Derby. But within minutes the field was down to three cars battling it out in the infield of the Speedway. After the third-place car of Colton Quinn (No. 11Q) was smashed, Charlie Cook (No. 20/29) immediately cornered Dave Corbett (No. 121) and took him out for the victory.
