Lone Wolf Pit Stop Presents Round 4 of Friday Night Thunder at Ohsweken

by Tommy Goudge (June 5, 2008) –

As the calendar switches to June and the weather begins to heat up, so too do the track championship battles at Ohsweken Speedway.  This week Lone Wolf Pit Stop presents Round 4 of Friday Night Thunder at Ohsweken featuring the Corr/Pak Merchandising Winged Sprint Cars, ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini-Stocks, and Fun Stocks.

3 different winners have graced victory lane in 3 weeks of Corr/Pak Winged Sprint Car action, with impressive rookie Ryan Hunsinger the latest addition to the feature winners list.  Hunsinger’s late race charge to victory vaulted him into 3rd place in the points, and into a commanding lead in the Rookie of the Year standings.  Jared Zimbardi took home a 6th place finish this past Friday, while 2nd place point man Keith Dempster finished 7th, losing 1 point on Zimbardi, who now leads by 12.  Hunsinger displaced Fred Cade and Kevin Job who were tied for 3rd heading into last Friday’s event.  Cade and Job came home with 4th and 5th place finishes in last week’s feature, matching their current points positions.  Job was a hard charger last week, advancing from a starting spot outside of row 7 to finish in the top 5.  Some of the local sprint car touring series have Friday night off, meaning there could be a few surprises in the pits again this week.

The ESSO Thunder Stock division is enjoying some of its largest car counts in quite some time this year, and continues to grow with each passing week.  Gord Bates and Kyle Magrin made their 2008 Thunder Stock debuts this past Friday and figure to be competing for top 5 finishes before the season comes to an end.  The ESSO Thunder Stock feature saw a new face in victory lane on Friday night as Terry Osmond took home his first win of the season, moving him to a tie for 3rd in points.  Cody McPherson, who won two features in a row to start the season, was fast again last week charging from the 10th starting position to a 3rd place finish, and extending his point lead over Vince Fargnoli in the process.  Fargnoli salvaged a 7th place after a spin in his heat relegated him to a starting position on the tail of the feature, and remains 2nd in points, just ahead of the 3rd place tie between Osmond and the very consistent Glenn Leinen.  2007 champ Brad Bacher rounds out the top 5 and remains in the hunt despite a spin in last week’s feature.

The ESSO Mini-Stock division also saw a new face in victory lane this week as Mike Evers took the checkered flag, making it 3 winners in 3 races in the competitive division.  Round 2 feature winner Mitchell Brown followed Evers home in 2nd after starting 11th, while Chase Hess took home his best finish of the season with a 3rd place effort.  Dan Stewart and 2007 champ Abel Castelein rounded out the top 5.  Castelein advanced from the 12th starting position to finish 5th and appears to be in the same form which garnered him the track championship last season.

2 more Fun Stocks joined the party last Friday, and once again it was one of the new arrivals in victory lane as Dave Hils came home first, followed by last week’s feature winner Lee Hils, and another newcomer in Evan Ritchie.  Karl Sault and Steven Hils sit tied atop the points standings, with Chris Hils just 4 points behind.
