MEDIA ALERT: Drivers arrive in Perth ahead of SuperSprint

Supercars drivers will today put finishing touches on preparations for this weekend’s fifth round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, the Perth SuperSprint.

The big names are expected to once again battle it out at the front of the grid, with rising star Scott McLaughlin the man to catch after recording a perfect weekend at Phillip Island a fortnight ago with two pole positions and two race wins.

The results leapfrogged McLaughlin into the championship lead over rival and seven-time Champion Jamie Whincup who has dropped back to fifth.

Today all 26 championship drivers will meet with Supercars fans from the West at Forrest Place in Perth City, ahead of what is expected to be a spectacular weekend of racing.

In the support categories, the thrilling Stadium Super Trucks return to Barbagallo this weekend where they will leap over jumps at full-speed before going door-to-door around one of the shortest circuits on the Supercars calendar.

The Dunlop Super2 Series will see home-grown talent going head-to-head with six West Australian drivers pushing to claim line honours on a track they’ve grown up racing around since their junior days.

In the Supercars Championship, McLaughlin won both races in Perth last year, his first race victories for the rising powerhouse Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Practice begins tomorrow at 11:05am local time with a second and final practice session to begin at 2:40pm local time. Qualifying begins on Saturday at 1:55pm local time ahead of the opening 120km race of the weekend, which starts at 4:45pm local time on Saturday afternoon.

Every Supercars practice, qualifying and race is broadcast live, ad-break free on Fox Sports 506 Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Supercars trackside, the new live Supercars program will be broadcast LIVE nationwide on Fox Sports 506 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm AEST.

Highlights from both of this weekend’s races will be broadcast on ONE, Ten and Ten HD on Saturday and Sunday nights. Check local guides for details. For the full TV Schedule, head to supercars.com/tv-schedule.
