Peterborough Examiner has an article stating no weekly shows at Kawartha-only one race in the Fall (Cdn Tire show). I often thought four area tracks (including nearby Brighton) was too many for the local fanbase to support. I was just surprised it wasn't one of the Sat nite paved tracks, who have suffered with anemic car counts, that was the one to be shuttered

The other 3 tracks weren't being subsidised by the OLG

agreed. And the OLG turned a lot of amateur horse owners into professional with large purses covered 84% by the slots. I was astounded to read recently that only 16% of the horse purse revenue was covered by actual betting on the race. The pro's are having a hard time realizing their hobby is no longer a career.
I remember when the speedway opened, I thought they were throwing the money around with a number of tire changing competitions that paid a grand to win.
Don't get me wrong, I love the facility, but just found it was too hard to get there on a Friday night and couldn't justify the $50.00 plus return toll on the 407 from Burlington.
Of the two remaining paved tracks in the Peterboro area, I'm interested to see if one will move to Friday, otherwise will they just continue limping along with really bad car counts
