Tickets go on sale today for The Perth round of the V8 Supercar Championship, which will be known this year as the Chill Perth 360, thanks to a partnership with West Australian dairy Brownes.

Former V8 Supercars champion, multiple Bathurst winner and West Australian Garth Tander was in Perth today to announce the sponsorship, launch ticket sales for the 3 to 5 May event at Barbagallo Raceway Wanneroo, and provide details on the significant changes to Australia's premier motorsport series.

Coming straight from the Clipsal 500 - the first round of the 2013 V8 Supercar Championship - Tander said there was a whole new level of competition on the track with two additional manufacturers racing for the title.

"It's been an amazing start to the year in Adelaide with record crowds and big television audiences.

"It has been intriguing to see Nissan and Mercedes on the grid; especially the positive impact they have had.

Both those teams are still feeling their way a little but when we get to Perth I am sure they will be strong challengers.

"For our Holden Racing Team things are looking great early on. We had a strong run in Adelaide and can get big race wins this year I'm sure.

"We've always been strong in Perth so I am really looking forward to it. The track with the improvements are absolutely first class; thanks to the Government and V8 Supercars for giving Western Australia, my home, a fantastic facility for all motorsport."

V8 Supercars Australia's Director of Sanctioned Business, Adam Firth, said the addition of World MotoGP champion Casey Stoner as a driver in the Dunlop Development Series support category meant this would be the motorsport event of the year for WA fans.

"There's no doubt Casey is going to be a huge draw card when he drives a V8 Holden Commodore in the Dunlop Development Series.

"When you've got names like his on the billing with the superstars of the V8 Supercar Championship like Whincup, Lowndes, Winterbottom and Tander, you've got a massive motorsport event," Firth said.

The Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series and the Touring Car Masters will complete the three huge days of motorsport action.

The Chill Perth 360 is further boosted in 2013 with the new partnership with iconic Western Australian brand Brownes.

Brownes Managing Director Ben Purcell said the company was proud to continue its tradition of supporting the WA community and major events.

"Brownes has been a major part of Western Australia since 1886. Brownes Chill is a household name, just like V8 Supercars," he said.

"Chill is a great fit for this event. We know how much West Australians love the V8s and we know how much they love Brownes Chill. "

Eventscorp Executive Director Gwyn Dolphin said the Chill Perth 360 was a feature of Perth's exciting events calendar and gave West Australians a chance to see the new manufacturers and new faces on the track.

"Last year's event attracted 43,000 spectators to the redeveloped track and we're confident of even more visitors this year. The Chill Perth 360 will be seen around Australia on the Seven Network and its regional affiliates on the Saturday and Sunday of the event, plus will be televised to more than 130 countries," Dolphin said.

The V8 Supercars Championship attracts fans of all ages and the Chill Perth 360 will be a great day out for families with a Family Fun Zone, family passes and free entry for children under 13 years. Getting to the track is easy with public transport included with pre-purchased tickets. A regular shuttle will run to and from the Clarkson train station to the venue. More information at www.transperth.wa.gov.au Barbagallo Raceway is fully licensed and no BYO is permitted.

A free Driver Signing at Forrest Place on Thursday 2 May will give fans the chance to meet all of the Championship drivers, building excitement for the race weekend.

Notes to editors:
The '360' in the event title Chill Perth 360 refers to the length of the main race - 360km. Each event in the V8 Supercar Championship includes the race length in its title in 2013.

Perth is one of six of the 14 championship events to feature a new '60/60 Super Sprint' race format. This will see the Saturday race split into two halves. Drivers will race for 60-kilometres before taking a 15-minute 'half time' break and then resume in the order they were running in - with a rolling double-file restart.

The race order at the end of the second 60-kilometres will determine the race winner, podium finishes and all minor placings and championship points. In essence, these '60/60 Super Sprints' are the one race split into two halves. On the Sunday there will be 2 x 120km races completing the '360' total.
