KENNINGTON SHOWS DETERMINED EFFORT IN CASTROL EDGE DODGE

July 14, 2018. DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team hit the streets of Toronto this weekend for the fourth stop on the 2018 NASCAR Pinty’s Series, the annual stop at the Toronto Indy weekend.  Following a disappointing qualifying session Kennington clawed his way forward for a top-ten finish in the race.

Hot, humid conditions were the order of the day during Friday afternoon’s practice session and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team worked hard to improve the car during the one hour segment.  Later that afternoon Kennington could only manage the 11thbest time during qualifying.  “It was puzzling to us,” he said afterwards.  “We were a bit off for the conditions and if you miss by just a couple of tenths it really sets you back,” stated the driver.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team dug in and made further changes for the Saturday afternoon race and Kennington was on the move right after the green flag waved. Putting in consistent lap times he moved his way forward into the top ten and with a late caution setting up a green, white checker finish in overtime there was an opportunity for further gains.

Regrettably things got a little frantic in the closing laps and Kennington tangled with another racer.  “We were in good shape, trying to bring the car home with a decent finish after where we started, but then some part timers had other ideas” said the driver.

Following the contact by another racer Kennington nursed an ill handling #17 Castrol Edge Dodge to the finish line scoring an eighth place result.  “It’s disappointing for sure.  The team worked hard to make the car better and then we got hit, it bent the trailing arm and we had to settle for eighth.  Definitely should have had a better finish than that”.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will head to western Canada for the next two events. First stop is Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Wednesday July 25th.
