In the 50th year of Australia's iconic race, the 2012 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 has recorded the highest crowd in history with a staggering 207,205 people on track over the four days.
It is the first time the crowd has exceeded 200,000 in the regional city of Bathurst and eclipses the previous record of 193,647 that attended the 2006 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 following the death of the great Peter Brock.
"It was very clear right from Thursday that this weekend was going to be something very, very special," V8 Supercar CEO David Malone said.
"From day one everybody has been commenting on how many people are here and that has really shown in the final numbers. The whole track is packed, the campgrounds are buzzing and today people started coming in at 2am this morning, extraordinary.
"It has been a wonderful weekend and I am particularly proud of the thousands of families that have come along and really enjoyed themselves. The atmosphere has been absolutely tremendous."
