Wyant Group Raceway
Race Report for September 1, 2017

What a difference a week makes.   Two weeks ago some drivers were
confident they were on their way to a division championship.  Now they
find themselves with little room for error or even out of first place.

There is no racing this weekend at the Wyant Group Raceway.  The long
weekend was put on the calendar as a makeup date in the event of a
rainout during the season.  With no rainouts, drivers get a chance to
enjoy a long weekend and we get to look at the points standing.

All divisions except the mini stocks have one race meet left.  The
Golf’s Car Wash Street Stocks, the CrimeStoppers Law Enforcement
Guardian Bandoleros, and the Tiger Automotive Pro Trucks all race for
the last time next weekend, Saturday September 9.  The following weekend
the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stocks, the Earthworks Sask Legends, the Shell
V-Power Nitro Sportsman and the WSSL Super Late Models wrap up their year.

In the CrimeStoppers Law Enforcement Guardian Bandolero Division, Ryley
Schneider has a 14 point lead over Ty Stewart.  That should be enough
for the #93 AGI Insurance Camaro to win the season, but with a dozen
other cars out there Ryley will have to finish in the top of the pack to
hang on.  Ty could steal the season from Ryley by finishing three places
ahead of him in each of the races next weekend.

Schneider will have to stay at the top of his game.

The Golf’s Car Wash Street Stocks are equally tough to call.  Curtis
Houben has a 28 point lead over Mike Rea, which should be enough to
clinch, but just ask Brad Wrennick about over confidence.  One mistake
and you could see the championship slip from the #81 RPM Camaro.

Complicating matters, the street stock invitational, the Martensville
Valley A&W 100 is being run in conjunction with the points final.  That
means extra cars and extra pressure on the points leaders.

A week ago Aaron Anderson had a comfortable lead atop the Tiger
Automotive Pro Truck standings.  Shantel Kalika was in second and Alex
Leschenko was in third.  Going into the points final next Saturday Alex
finds his #01 Family Pizza Ford F150 at the top of the board with a one
point lead over Kalika.  Two points back sits Anderson.

Talk about pressure.  Anderson has always claimed he will change
divisions once he has won a championship.  He has already made it known
he is looking at the Sportsman division for 2018 (his #19 Ens Toyota
Tundra is for sale), so you know he is looking to win next weekend.

Fireworks for sure.

In the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stock division, Cole Nixey is sitting 51
points up on second place Shawn Magee.  The catch is the mini stocks
still have two race weekends left so there’s 100 points on the table.
It would take disaster, but the #23 33rd Street Automotive Acura Integra
isn’t guaranteed the championship trophy just yet.

Similarly, in the Earthworks Sask Legends division, Blake Erb looked to
be running away with the points lead, but after a couple of mishaps AJ
Morrison has pulled within 13 points of him.  Blake should clinch the
season but the #21 Flamon Group Ford Coupe will have to finish in the
top half of each race or AJ’s #84 Snooker Shack Ford Coupe could score
an upset.

The Shell V-Power Nitro Sportsman Division is another where I think Neil
Schneider was already counting his chickens, but now he is busy
polishing up his rear view mirror for what is going to be another
exciting finish on September 16.

Last week Schneider’s #93 Burco Electric Camaro had a 12 point lead over
Kerry Neufelds #2 Neufeld Building Movers Chevy SS.  A big mistake in
the Race for the Cure 100 last week cost him dearly.  Favored heavily to
win, he was sent off the track under green only three laps in because
his car was leaking fuel.

Going three laps down would prove an impossible feat to overcome, so now
he finds himself going into the final weekend with only a two point lead
over rookie driver Neufeld.  Ben Busch is only eight points back, so
will also be looking to pounce on any mistake by those two.

That leaves us with the Super Late Models, with two trophies on the
line.  Matthew Shirley leads the local WSSL Auto Parts Division
standings by 22 points over Howie Crossman.  That  makes the trophy
Matt’s to lose, but look for the #12 Saskatoon Co-op Chevy SS to be the
WSSL champion as long as he starts each race.

Across the street in the Western Speed Association SLM Series
championship, Trent Seidel has a 38 point lead over Matt Shirley.  Like
Shirley in the WSSL Standings, the #70 Elance Steel Chevy SS should be
the Market Tire Series champion as long as he starts each race.

So there you have it.  You know the math wizards will be busy the next
two weekends as they plan strategy to gain positions and win the
division championships for 2018.

Again, there’s no racing this weekend, but we have three exciting
weekends to go at Wyant Group Raceway.

Racing on Saturday, September 9 starts at 6:05pm with the Martensville
Valley A&W Street Stock Invitational, the Golf’s Car Wash Mini stocks
and the points finals for the Golf’s Car Wash Street Stocks, the
CrimeStoppers Law Enforcement Guardian Bandoleros and the Tiger
Automotive Pro Truck Divisions.  Join the drivers in Martensville
Saturday morning for a meet & greet, enjoy the Martensville Car Show
along Centennial Drive, then come out to the track for an evening of
exciting racing.

Saturday, September 16 is the points finals for the WSSL Super Late
Model Division, the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stock Division, the Earthworks
Sask Legends Series and of course the Market Tire Western Speed
Association Super Late Model Series finishing up their year with the
Elite Property Management 150.  Racing on September 16 moves to an
afternoon programs, with racing starting at 2:05pm

The final program of the year is everyone’s favorite, Run Your Junk,
Ultimate Enduro and Sask Drifting.  These teams promise to put an
exciting show on Sunday, September 24 at 2:00pm.  Watch for more details
on the exciting Sunday afternoon.
