Boy where has the time gone? For those that are new too the site here is a run down how CRO became a site that has been around for 16 years.
I saw an ad for a CASCAR race at the Toronto Indy. I was a big NASCAR fan and never herd of CASCAR. I did a search on the web and found a message forum that was really messed up and hard to follow. So I started the Site CASCAROnline.com, which ran from 1999 to 2006. I registered CanadianRacingOnline.com in 2003 as wanted to get more into grass roots racing in Canada. Good thing I did this as, in 2006 NASCAR Lawyers contacted me and said I had to give up the domain name CascarOnline.com as, they own the rights to CASCAR. This was something Tony Novotny wanted to do for years. Never understood why NASCAR wanted to do this as they never used the name nor did they every want too.
CanadianRacingOnline.com has taken a bit of a hit from the growth of social media site but we still get a lot of views and have many active members on the site. The problem with social media site is they give out your private information and CRO has always kept the users info private. People have offered to buy the site just for the user database but never going to allow this.
We started adding more message areas in the US and UK but for the most part it's a Canadian site.
Over the years we have seen series and tracks come and go but this never changed the way the site was run.
My thoughts are when facebook is gone where is all your content and groups going to be? CRO has all the stuff right here on the site and other sites we have.
I hope I can keep this site running for another 16 years or pass the torch on to someone who enjoys racing and wants the site to keep going.
