Luke Gignac Rebounds From Spin for Top-Five at Frostoberfest

HAMILTON, Ontario --- Despite being sent for a spin with 10 laps to go, Luke Gignac made his way back to the front for a top-five finish at Flamboro Speedway's Frostoberfest.

Gignac showed speed in qualifying, finishing fifth in his first heat, followed by a runner-up in the second qualifier.

Starting fifth for the 50-lap feature, he'd get alongside Kelly Balson for fourth in the early stages, but the second caution came out at the same time on Lap 3 for a car going around deep in the field. Restarting in fifth, he'd move up into fourth and remain there as the race reached, and past the halfway mark. Through the middle portion of the event, the field strung out as they caught lap cars, with Gignac being chased from behind for fourth. Shawn Chenoweth would catch Gignac for fourth, looking for a way by five straight laps. He wouldn’t be able to make it happen, though, as the pair made contact on Lap 41, causing Gignac to go around for the third caution.

Restarting ninth with 10 laps to go, he'd avoid an incident ahead of him on the restart to move up two spots to seventh. Restarting just outside of the top-five, he'd move back into the top-five, with a pass on Dale Reinhart with five laps to go. He'd catch Jason Keen for fourth, but was unable to complete the pass, ultimately crossing the finish line in fifth.
