Headz Gamez gone... with an almost $6 million bankruptcy

When Kerry Martens and his Headz Gamez Int'l came onto the racing scene halfway through 2006, it was a breath of fresh air. It was very exciting to think that a big company was keen to market its wares through Canadian motorsports. Sadly, like many things that seem too good to be true.... it was.

We recently received bankruptcy papers noting that the company was kaput and that its only legacy would be a creditors' list amounting to over $5.75 million dollars and broken dreams for many, including the residents of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.

Headz Gamez is merely the latest addition to a list of companies and individuals who have preyed upon the goodwill and optimism of those in the racing community. It's time for all of us to look in the mirror and change so that this doesn't happen again. Burn us once, shame on you... Burn us 10 times, shame on us.

The bottom line is that if someone isn't going to pay you a significant part of their sponsorship commitment up front.... then he's probably never going to pay you at all.

I wonder if Roush Racing for Pete Shepherd got their sponsorship money from them. They were to sponsor the truck and ARCA races.

Hi, can anyone substantiate this story about Headz Gamez going bankrupt?

Here's 1 link I have come across on the internet, it doesn't say anything about Griddly Headz going bankrupt???

http://www.citizenweekly.com/index.cfm?iid=2099&sid=16512

Here's another link (if it still works) stating that Mr. Martens sold his shares in the relatively new company and resigned as president and CEO.

http://thechronicleherald.ca/Business/548769.html

Although Headz Gamez website was working earlier, it seems to be down now???

However, it doesn't sound very good for all involved with this company, does it?

I just tried calling a couple of numbers of the Richmond, B.C. sales office for Griddly Headz and both phone numbers are no longer in service (surprise ! ). It looks like maybe they over extended themselves during start up and maybe spent too much on racing sponsorship and probably a hefty licensing fee to Nascar. Too bad. As the Inside Track item stated, it was refreshing to see a Canadian company try and get involved in racing (Nascar and locally) in a big way, especially a new company. On a down note though, it's a bad thing if any one was stiffed for monies owed.

I think you'll find that there is alot more to Griddly Headz than just spending to much on start-up.........i'll wager that there was a few people that walked away with a few million bucks and left everyone holding the bag.........i mean really when's the last time someone went and bought a board game............how many people bought the Griddly Headz board game........anyone....................

The Griddly Headz Nascar games were not very strong sellers. I don't know how the other sports versions did. Not very well I'm guessing. But you're right fourbarrelcarb, not many people buy board games period anymore in this day and age of the video game.

I bought a couple, the deluxe one and the regular board game, primarily because they were sponsoring Petey. Both games are still in their original packaging. My daughter has one also, they played it once that I'm aware of, apparently it's a really good game, not just a game of chance, but thre's a ton of rules to digest.

I'm sorry to say I told everyone. The game sucked and they spent way more money then they could afford.

See CASCAR was always so happy to grab money from companys they never check out.

I had a good chuckle.......there was a commercial for the griddlyz headz game and it said it was the official game of nascar in canada and then about a minute later there was an advertisement for a board game with Kenny Wallace in the commercial and it was an interactive board game...........but it was the official game of nascar (not canada)............oops sorry head gamez.........no t.v. interactive in your game and no kenny wallace in your commercial............

interesting to read this as I just watched the intro to the cascar race on Speed and thought it funny that Arctic Cat was given sponsorship credits but i thought they were part of a "no pay" scandal for that race and now I read this thread and note that Griddly headz also got credits. I'd think that if these 2 companies never paid up  why would they still be getting credits on the broadcast of the race.
