Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour Set For Saturday’s Scotia Tire 50

Scotia Tire 50 marks second and final stop to Scotia Speedworld for 2015

(Dartmouth, NS - August 5th, 2015) - The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour heads back to Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, August 8th for the Scotia Tire 50. The race comprises the fourth round on the seven race series and second visit to the 3/10-mile oval outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Racing action on the afternoon, which is a part of the 16th Annual Atlantic Cat 250 weekend, begins at 5pm.

After three events, Paul Goulden of Shelburne, Nova Scotia holds the points lead with reigning Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour champion Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS) just five points behind heading into their home track. Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS), Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) and Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) complete the top five in the standings after three races.

Each of the top five championship contenders after three races are presented with unique agendas for Saturday night’s Scotia Tire 50. For MacNeill, Naugle and Butcher, they know what the thrill of victory lane at Scotia Speedworld in an Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour race feels like. Butcher and Naugle won the two stops at Scotia Speedworld in 2014, with Naugle entering Saturday as the defending champion of the Scotia Tire 50. Meehan has won at Scotia Speedworld in Bandolero and Legend competition on their Weekly Racing Series show, but never in Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends sanctioned competition. While consistency has rewarded Goulden the point lead, he has never won a feature in a Legend car, but will look to change that Saturday night.

One of the biggest stories of the season has been rookie Cory Hall. Hall, from Jolicure, New Brunswick, has won two races on the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour in 2015, including last weekend’s Action Car and Truck Accessories 50 at Oyster Bed Speedway. Hall also won the season opening event for the tour at Scotia Speedworld in May, when he made a last lap pass on Nicholas Naugle to take his first series win. He will look for his third series victory in four races on Saturday in the Scotia Tire 50.

The Rookie of the Year battle is led into the Scotia Tire 50 by Shubencadie, Nova Scotia’s Cole Tanner. Tanner, who sits sixth in the overall standings, has a 23 point cushion on Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) for the top freshman spot. Both drivers have experience on Atlantic Cat 250 weekend in Bandolero competition, with Meehan winning the last two Bandolero features as a part of this event. They lead Dustin Tucker (Fredericton, NB), Antigonish, Nova Scotia drivers Craig Chisholm and Kevin MacDonald along with Hall in the Rookie of the Year standings.

Also expected to join in on the battle for the Scotia Tire 50 on Saturday afternoon include the likes of Nova Scotia drivers Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport), Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake), Brad Brown (Halifax), Arnie Spinney (Coldbrook) and Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake). With Scotia Speedworld hosting their own weekly Legend division every Friday night, do not be surprised to see some familiar hometown cars make the leap to try their hand against the Tour’s finest on Saturday night.

Tickets for the Scotia Tire 50 can be purchased at the gates of Scotia Speedworld on race day. For facility information, including ticket prices, camping and additional Atlantic Cat 250 weekend information, please log onto ScotiaSpeedworld.ca.
