Cadillac Racing to Start 10th and 12th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

O'Connell leads GT points, Cooper second

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Canada -Cadillac Racing drivers Michael Cooper and Johnny O'Connell will start the first of two races in 10th and 12th respectively at the Pirelli World Challenge GT Championship Victoria Day Speedfest to run at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) tomorrow.

O'Connell (Flowery Branch, Ga.) will have difficulty repeating his CTMP sweep of both races from 2015. Following the race at Barber Motorsports Park three weeks ago, the Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupe has received a turbo boost reduction by the WC Vision Officials. Teammate Cooper (Syosset, N.Y.) likes the handling of his Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupe, but the GM LF4.R twin-turbocharged engine is noticeably down to the competition around the flowing 2.4-mile, 10-turn track located an hour north of Toronto.

"The Cadillac ATS-V.R is handling pretty good," said Cooper. "It is a fun track to drive in a good handling car. We are struggling for power, searching for some top speed. We have a good handling car, but we just can't keep up with some of these guys. Johnny and I ringing the necks of these Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupes. We are at the bottom of the top ten. For the race there is a gaggle of cars in front of us that are really close. We will have to run clean and take advantage of every position."

O'Connell, with an average qualifying position of third on the season, is disillusioned.

"Everyone is a little bit disappointed," said O'Connell. "We are not a team that qualifies on the fifth and sixth row. Since Barber we are the only team that has had a power reduction. Michael and I are digging as hard as we can. I have been on both sides of the handling curve so far, we just need to hit on the sweet spot. Like every weekend, the Cadillac Racing team will give it everything we have tomorrow."

The Pirelli World Challenge series race one from Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will run Saturday, May 21starting 1:15 p.m. ET. Race two will get the green flag on Sunday at 3 p.m.  Live streaming of the races can be viewed at http://world-challenge.com/streamvideo/.   The event will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network Sunday, May 29 at 12 p.m. ET.
