Full Moons Always Add Excitement
« on: August 31, 2015, 10:59:41 AM »
There is always something about a full moon in the air to help add to the excitement of short track racing and this past Friday night at Full Throttle was no different.  With four classes on the card to providing the always edge of your seat excitement that fans come to enjoy one class couldn’t shake the full moon curse.
Mini Trucks took to the track first to kick things off this week upping their game by running three feature races as the field of drivers and trucks grow closer in speed and ability.  In feature one it would by #7 driven by Brandon Hauck from Waterloo who would get out front quickly and become the truck to chase to the checkers.  Second would go to #88 Bubba Brown from London, third #67 driven by Travis McLean from Harriston and fourth #1 Denny Snider from Durham.  In feature two again it would be Brandon Hauck getting out front but this time from behind the wheel of the #67 truck taking it to victory lane. Second would go to #88 Bubba Brown, third #7 Travis McLean and fourth #1 Denny Snider.  For the third feature of the night track owner Gord Bennett would jump into the #1 truck which had run tail the last two features and wheel it from the back to front and out run #67 Brandon Hauck for the victory.  Third would go #88 Bubba Brown as the rest of the field had mechanical issues earlier in the race.
Super Trucks also did their part to entertain fans this night running three features of their own.  In feature one after the early departure of #69 Mike Becker from Cambridge the rest of the field was ready to see who could wheel their truck to victory lane.  In the end it would be #12 George Carter from Cambridge bring home the checker in front of #112 Ben Bond from Cambridge and #7 Brody Schiestel from Palmerston.  In feature two Mike Becker would make his return but this time behind the wheel of #112 as he would again take his place in victory lane.  This time he would be followed by #12 George Carter the #7 of Brody Schiestel and rounding out the field #183 Lyle Lorenz from Listowel.  Feature three would find #112 Becker with some turning left issues coming out of corner four early allowing #12 George Carter to get past him and stay out in front collecting his second checker of the night.  Second would go to #112 Becker, third #182 Lyle Lorenz and rounding out the field #7 Brody Schiestel.
Fun Stocks were also on hand this night with a number of regulars using backup drivers but it in no way took away from the excitement this class brings to the track week in and week out.  In feature one #32 Ben Klages from Hanover would take advantage of starting pole and lead this race from green to checker.  Second would go to #0 Phil Givens from Fergus driving for Nick Clarke, third would go to #85 Matt Clarke from Mount Forest, fourth #34 Alex Hastie from Durham and fifth #14 Luke Bos from Conn.  In feature two #85 Matt Clarke would find himself on the pole which signals  to the rest of the field they are racing for second and back most times.  After the 85 built up a great lead early young gun #34 Alex Hastie from Durham would slowly reel in the #85 in the dying laps but it was too little to late as Hastie would have to settle for second.  Third would go to current points leader #25 Billy Lovell from Mildmay, fourth #84 Kyle Woods driving for Andrea Parsons and fifth #32 Ben Klages.
Outlaw Late Model racing of late on the highbanks has turned into some of the best side by side racing action fans have seen in a long time with the field running in a pack most nights with drivers showing great respect for their cars and their competitors but on a full moon night all that can go out the window in a hurry.  In feature one it would be #40 Mark Dixon from Durham getting out in front early leaving a battle for second behind him between #76 Tyler Williams from Chesley and #11 Cole Weber from New Hamburg.  Then with #76 Williams moving into second he would start to work over #40 Dixon and coming out of corner four with five laps to go would get under Dixon cutting his right front tire down bringing out the first caution of the night.  On the restart #11 Weber would line up outside #40 Dixon and running side by side coming out of corner four on the next lap #40 Dixon would drift high and #11 Weber would find himself hard into the wall which looked like it would end his night.  With the field relined up and involved cars to the end of the lead lap cars #17 Nick Roth would line up inside #00 Trevor Thompson from Elmira and provide fans with a get finish.  In the end it would be #17 Roth followed by #00 Thompson, third would be #40 Dixon, fourth #36 Gary Elliott and #3 Jeff Dafoe from Britton for fifth.  In feature two points leader #11 of Cole Weber was able to return after a lot of hard work by his crew to reweld shock mounts in place and totally repair the right side of his car.  In the early going it would again be #40 Mark Dixon getting to the front and working hard to keep the rest of the field behind him.  With #11 Weber again on his back bumper and looking to get around #40 Mark Dixon developed a problem with his brakes going into corner three causing his car to lock up right in front of #11 Weber which put the 11 Weber right under the backend of the #40 bring out another caution.  Now with fenders and nosecone removed from his car 11 Weber again returned to the track starting at the rear.  After the restart all drivers settled into driving  with the 11 Weber working his way through the field picking off cars one by one until he got inside #40 Dixon coming out of corner two and as everyone wondered what would happen the 40 seemed to lose power dropping off the pace allowing 11 Weber to drive away.  In the end it would be #11 Cole Weber making his way to victory lane followed by #76 Tyler Williams, third #00 Trevor Thompson, fourth #40 Mark Dixon and rounding out the top five #36 Gary Elliott.
Next racing action at the highbanks will be this coming Friday Sept 4th for Mini Trucks, Fun Stocks, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks and Crazy Trains.  Grandstands open at 5PM with green flag at 7:30PM.
