OHSWEKEN, Ont. – August 16, 2017 – A massive night of racing is scheduled for Friday, August 18 at Ohsweken Speedway for Kids Race and Autograph Night presented by Jibs Action Sports. The Race of Champions Sportsman Tour returns to Ohsweken after the originally scheduled event was rained out on June 23. The race marks the second and final chance for Sportsman drivers to race at Ohsweken in 2017.

The remainder of this week’s schedule is action-packed after rain washed out last week’s Feature races. Double Features are on tap for the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars and Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks. The Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Car, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks and the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket all have full events on tap as well.

Friday is also the final Autograph Night of the Season where fans will be able to meet their favourite drivers up close for autographs and photos. It is also the second Kids Race in support of the Canadian National Autism Foundation (CNAF). A large contingent of CNAF supporters and representatives will be on hand to help promote autism awareness.

Race time is 7:30pm with Pit Gates scheduled to open at 5:30pm and Spectator Gates opening at 6:00pm. Admission for adults is just $14, $10 for seniors (65+), Youths (13-17), while kids age 7-12 are only $3. Children 6 and under are free.

Race of Champions Sportsman Tour
The Race of Champions Sportsman Tour last visited Ohsweken in 2016 at the Northern Crate Nationals when Chad Chevalier, a regular Sportsman driver in the Niagara Region, went to Victory Lane. Brad Rouse won the Race of Champions Sportsman Tour season opener at Humberstone Speedway on July and also won the Sportsman Feature at Ohsweken earlier this season  on July 25. Sportman Modifieds were a weekly division at Ohsweken until the conclusion of the 2007 season when they moved to a special event format. Jay Mallory of St. Catharines is the all-time Ohsweken Sportsman wins leader with 29 career victories. He’ll try for number 30 on Friday night. Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
The Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car drivers are tasked with a busy night of action. They will compete in double Features as last week’s race is made-up at the beginning of the night. Cory Turner and current division point leader Dylan Westbrook are scheduled to start on the front row for the first Feature before moving into the full regularly scheduled program. With no points awarded for last week’s rainout, Westbrook maintains his 44-point advantage over Jim Huppunen while Mikey Kruchka and Cory Turner sit tied for third. Mitch Brown rounds out the current top-five.

Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars
The Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Car drivers are eager to return to competition this week after three thrilling heat races last Friday night. Their rained out Feature will be made-up on Friday, August 25. The teams are reloaded for action this week and Mack DeMan once again enters as the point leader with a slim seven-point gap over Holly Porter. Porter’s teammate Jesse McDonald is 20 points off the lead in third while Mike Thorne and Shone Evans round out the top-five.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
The Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks resume action after some exciting heat races of their own last week. They’ll also compete in double Features on Friday night with Kacey Huffman and Bryce Richardson scheduled to start on the front row for the 20-lap main event. Dave Bailey continues to lead the point standings with a 73-point advantage over Dereck Lemyre. Ryan Dinning, Jim Lampman and Ken Sargent complete the current top-five in the division point standings.

HRW Automotive Mini Stocks
The HRW Automotive Mini Stocks are set to hit the track again this week. All preliminary competition was completed for last week’s 42-lap Art Hill Memorial Feature, including four heat races and two B-Mains, but rain fell before the race could be run. It will be made-up on August 25. Drivers enter this week’s competition with a clean slate for another full points night. Jon Janssens remains the current point leader in car No.60x, but by just six markers over Mark Bazuin. Brandon Crumbie is third just nine points off the lead. Rookie driver Nick Masi remains in championship contention as well just 12 points off the lead while Tim DeBoer is 37 points back of the top spot in fifth.

Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers
The Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers were the only division to complete Feature competition this year when Lucas Smith went to Victory Lane for the third time this season. The win grew his point lead to 48 markers over Gillians Hils. Paul Longboat, last week’s runner-up, is third while Dustin Longboat and Jerry Burnham complete the top-five.

About Kids Race: Kids Race is an action-packed race series covering 7 tracks across 2 provinces held each year in support of The Canadian National Autism Foundation. Kids Race was established in 2010 as an idea to create a new platform for autism research and awareness. Shortly after speaking with and working alongside track owners, officials, drivers, crews and fans a common bond was formed. We realized that passion, dedication, family and the love of what we doing was something shared by everyone involved in the races. The races only happen once a year, but the work done for autism is a year-round process. For more information, visit www.kidsrace.ca.
