I got a 94 impreaza but I want to know what or if there doing anything with the rules befor I start....

I have also herd the rules will be staying the same  but that they had not ruled out letting in the 16 V cars yet . Shawn your the second person i have herd of  considering building an Impreza . What engine are you going to use  1.8 , 2.0 , 2.2 ?  Are not all the EJ engines that came in the Imprezas 16 V ?
If you are going to use the 1.8 how are you going to get a car that weighs over 2400 lbs down to the proper weight since starting out penalizing your self with extra weight is about the worst thing you can do ? Don't get me wrong because i think using a car with a boxer engine is definitely the hot set up in this class . Having a car with an all aluminum engine a lower center of gravity and 50 % less torque steer then any of the other FWD cars is great but how are you going to deal with the valve and weight issues ?
Title: Re: Barrie Speedway Awards Banquet!
Post by: Suby Man on October 21, 2007, 09:45:10 AM
the weight is no prob the car it 3700 lbs as it sits and my littel black car started out at 3400 and on the track I could only get it to 2400 if they did let in 16v than the 2.2 is the way to go.... you cant kill the engine and it has lots of mid range power but if thay dont than im going to use the engin i used last year but with a 5 spd trany (finaly  ;D ) but if we dont here anything buy the 3rd than im just going to start so we will just see how it go's

3700 lbs Shawn? My '70 Charger had a NHRA weight factor of 3750 lbs... And a B body Mopar is a lot bigger car than that Impreza.

My Thunder Car is very close to 3150, which is our weight break. With my 215 lbs of pure goodness aboard... LOL.

I think you are off on the numbers...

I will check my #'s again tomorow but I know for shure that my car last year got weighed in tech and it was 2400 lbs
Title: Re: Barrie Speedway Awards Banquet!
Post by: Kahnefreak on October 21, 2007, 07:45:33 PM
yeah Shawn dude if that is the case then you'll have a much heavier car with the same engine if no 16 valves are allowed....i think you meant a lower number. maybe you'll have to add some weight in there.....you can always just eat more on racing day like I did...lol

Suby GVW is gross vehicle weight in other words you should never have more then 3 fat chicks and a case of beer in the car . Your car weighs about 2400 lbs with no one in it .

joe you seem to know alot about all diffrent makes and models...you should be the new 4 banger tech guy?

I don't think so since you had a good tech guy at Barrie and they canned him for just doing what he was suppose to . He was a little weak on doing the Honda's IMO since i would have left a note at the pit gate to not let the Burrow girls past the gate .

So now there are only 2 days till the banquet.
Who does everyone think should/will win Sportsman/woman and Best Appearing Car for both the Chargers and the A Class?
Title: Re: Barrie Speedway Awards Banquet!
Post by: Kahnefreak on November 01, 2007, 12:41:23 PM
i would say that Tia is the sportswoman of the year. best appearing car would either be Dave Crumbie or myself, then again Tia's car was pretty hot!  Most improved, don't know. It depends on how they look at most improved. Do they look at it from the previous year? if so then I think it could be anyone of the top 4 in points. Tia, Dave and I should get the perserverance awards cause Tia and Dave got hurt and still continued on, and I got hurt and kept it going with a borrowed car. That's the chargers. "A" division best looking car i think belongs to Watson. Most improved I think is Bryan Penny. Most sportmanlike I would give to Dave Glaze. Perserverance awards would go to Ralph Sikes and Thayne Hallyburton. I don't think they have a rookie in the "A" division but I would say that Drew Stieler would get the rookie of the year in the charger class.

Thundercars, best looking car would have to be Tremblay or Doucette. Rookie of the year Troy Potts. Most sportsmanlike Frank Davey. Bryan Murray most improved.

LLM. Best looking car Robin Jongen. Rookie of the year Robert Thornborrow. Most sportsmanlike Robin Jongen. Most improved Dwayne Baker who went from 2 feature wins to 4 this year and 9 top 5's last year to 17 top 5's this year and taking the championship.

All in all I think we will see a wide variety of award winners

Most improved from last year to this year, it's a toss up between Crumbie and Monette, for the charger division. Checked that stats for last year, and with the two of them finishing on top, it's got to go to one of them.

well some of my predictions were correct at the banquet last night. Very glad to see Tia got Sportsmanlike. The championship rings were a very neat thing for the new owners to give to the track champions. Hopefully that is a start to many new great things from them. I enjoyed myself and I hope everybody else did as well!

Yes the banquet was great, but they could have mixed up the music a little more, it would have been nice to have heard some slow dances. Now to get my hands on a copy of that slide show, that's what I want.... it was great.

Yes Denise was waiting for a slow dance but it got too late and we had to leave before they put one on and that was almost midnight. definately needed a little more music mix. Ah well dinner was good, i love food....lol, and i want a copy of that slideshow as well. very cool!

Yes Some People would rather Dance a Slow Dance than what The D.J. was Playing ,,I was a Mobile D.J. for 12 Yrs and The Least he could have done at a Banquet and Or Wedding Was to Do a Mix of everything  From Classic rock to a Slow Country tune to Maybe a Waltz after all It seens that the age bracket was 14 to 70 and so I may not know about Fixing Race cars,,But I am a huge Fan of Music and To Cater to the teens to the Mid 20s was not fair to us Older folks with Bad Knees and Backs so I hope that the Banquet in 08 The music is a liitle more of a better Mi,,Don't mean to be a Party Pooper But if half the crowd was gone before 11pm Well there is something wrong,,IMO,,But all in all Was a good Night

whats up with the nascar iou's, i'm sure the division sponsors paid the points fund money up front. also i was just talking to mitchs dad, and they had no idea this was going to happen. can u imagine the embarrassment had mitch been there. does anyone know if this happened to any of the other young guns. if barrie speedway doesn't make this right i will personally buy a trophy and give the kid his payout. just the tip of the nascar iceberg, look what it did for delaware.
Title: Re: Barrie Speedway Awards Banquet!

personally I think Mitch earned it and deserved it. Had the age been a problem then he should have been told earlier in the year, but having not told him anything is definately wrong I think. He paid his money to get a nascar drivers license. So they recognized him to be a driver when they sent him his license. They shouldn't have given a license to somebody then. Nascar should refund Mitch's license money. I think that if you need a license to race and you have to be 16 to be recognized, then Barrie Speedway should only allow people 16 years of age and over race at the speedway. This would solve a heck of a whole lot. I feel bad for Mitch, and I was very shocked that I was given that 3rd place award. If it didn't say "Steeve Melson" on it, I would definately give the award to Mitch irrregardless of whether Nascar recognizes him or not. But I doubt Mitch wants an award with my name on it! that's my 2 pennies on the issue.

Did Brandon receive anything from Nascar, or Desera in the Chargers,  as they both would have been in the same situation. Also did they pay the full Nascar fee at the beginning of the year,  or did they pay something else due to the fact they were under 16?

racingjunkie my son applied too but as a crew member paid his due got supposedly nascar lic., which didn't even look like all the rest of them because of his age, it looked like it was homemade and looked like it came from a floor tile so that would include desi and mitch and anyone else, from what i heard earlier in the year was that desi was reimbursed her lic. fee don't quote me on that one it is only what was heard around the track

anybody think that people under 16 should not be allowed to race? i think this is the way it needs to be so that the track and Nascar are not in conflict. besides it was 16 for years and years at Barrie Speedway. There are other series that allow younger ones to race at. If it means so much to race, then they should have to race there. I knew there was going to be issues with Nascar getting involved. They just have to iron some things out with the track to avoid things like this from ever happening again!

the age was 16 ,but with a waiver signed by a lawyer absolving the governing bodies of any liability, you could race at 13. i started at barrie when i was 13 racing enduros. i would sooner see a 13 year old racing with his family than playing video games hitting a bong.

Yes , what is wrong with 13 to 16 year old driving at the track????
Would match rather see them racing in real race cars and learning how to control in different conditions, than hear about them racing on the streets and highways and killing people. There is just too much of this racing on the highways and too many LIVES BEING TAKEN FROM IT.   I give them credit, they are doing it the right way!!!!!!!!!! This is where  Stewart, Rutherford and, Earndharts started.

I think he's only refering to the fact that it's a conflict between Nascar and the track, If Nascar recongnized them I know he dosent have any problem with there age..
Title: Re: Barrie Speedway Awards Banquet!
Post by: Kahnefreak on November 06, 2007, 06:44:10 PM
yes i am only referring to the conflict between Nascar and the Speedway. They should go together either lower the age or not allow anyone under 16 to compete. I feel real bad for Mitch. I have no problems racing against smart kids that can control their cars. Mitch is one of them and so is Watson. I wouls like to see these young kids race but the conflict between nascar and the speedway needs to be resolved. one way or the other. I just said that the track should make the limit 16 cause i don't think Nascar would budge with making it younger. Either that or tell the young ones they can race and compete for Barrie speedway awards but they would not get Nascar awards. Either way this is something that needs to be dealt with at the drivers meeting in December!

Bikerbob - if they don't give him a trophy for his 3rd place finish and you end up buying him one - give us a call (you have the number) and we will chip in on paying for it. Mitch deserved 3rd place he worked hard for it.

I say lets quit pickin on Steeve, He did'nt do anything wrong in my books, Mitch will get his stuff from BSW just not from Nascar, Mitch and his dad need to aproach the track and disscuss this with them, and Nascar should reimburse his money, they never should have taken his money in the first place if he was too young, this issue needs to be left to BSW and Nascar..

this thread WILL NOT turn into a bash steve thread. points to ponder did nascar screw up by taking mitchs money -YES. did steve do anything wrong accepting third place or by his post here-NO-read them carefully with out malice, do not look for something to beat over the head. does nascar and barrie did to do something-YES- but give them time to do something if it does not get cleared up for next year at least then start yellin. last point does nascars rule book say anything about age-?- if it does then mitch and his team have to share some of the blame, we as racers should know the rule we race under, the excuse i did not know is weak.

everyone should read the rule book you got with your license it does state age regulations no driver under the age of 16 will qualify for nascar standings. That does not mean they do not qualify for bsw standings. Nascar and BSW have done nothing wrong imo everyone should have read the rule book before hand and understood it. This is just my opinion thanks

Regardless, Mitch will have his third place standing, for which in my opinion, he can be very proud of accomplishment. Maybe next year, he will have first place, he will be reconized at the track as third place in the chargers division, who cares if nascar reconizes him or not, we know how well he did, and we are all very proud of him at his home track of BSW. Way to go Mitch.

Just for those who havent read the 2007 Nascar rule book,

Page 10, section 3-4 Minors
(Quote)
If the applicant is a minor under the laws of his/her state of residence, the applicant must also submit, with his/her application, a fully executed and signed Minor's Release. This Minor's Release must be signed by the applicant, as well as the applicant's natural father or mother, or by a court-appointed leagal guardian. As with all applications NASCAR may, but is not required to, approve the application of any applicant under 21 years of age.

Page 11, section 3-6 Minimum Driver License Requirements

Not going to disspute your claim Bigdog, I only put that up because of those complaints against my son for getting Nascar's award for third, anything other should be disscused between Nascar and BSW, Like myself I'm sure you recieved your rule book before the season started, So I am asumming if all had read it then those dispute's should have been discussed at the begining of the year, not waiting till something dosent smell right to find out the in's and out's of whats going on, IMO it's up to the individule to make them selves aware of what there getting into before hand, and yes I know you had to pay before getting the book.

I hope it will bring on board a whole new bread of drivers for next year... We have the best drivers around, and we are bringing in the next generation of drivers that will no doubt become some of the best.....
