More like speculation really but with the rumored turbulance at Delaware how far of a reach would it be to say that Novotny will buy it back with all his new found 'resources' ie: all that cash from NASCAR.  That should get the pot stirred!

What kind of turbulence are you talking about?

I hear they are not hosting the NCTS this year. Any truth to it?

Can't say for certain on the NCTS.  They have a couple days open on the Labour Day weekend......Everyone seems to think it's a no go.

I was told by a prominent track official that NCTS to this point has not contacted Delaware in any way shape or form. Actually they haven't contacted ANYone. They (Delaware) are still open to it, but aren't going to jump through hoops to get NASCAR on board.

But, with the so-called shakeups at Delaware, maybe that'll change.

I'll have to have a good long think about whether I'd want to see Tony back. Delaware's spent three years sorta trying to undo some of the bad feelings left over from the Novotny era. (not that Tony wasn't good for the track...he was, but he was the type of promoter that had policies that ticked a lot of regular Friday night guys off.)

Course, maybe if he was willing to operate the track where the track itself was the number one priority, without treating the friday night show as a feeder league for something else...maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

Either way, its an interesting debate, but I kinda doubt it'll happen.

That's why I put it here in the rumour forum :)  I don't think it will happen either, but the thought crossed my mind so I thought I'd make it cross some others.

I think the real question is .... how many drivers / teams would be inclined to run Delaware because Nitwitny is running the track and how many would rather give up their first born then run a track he is involved with  ?

Is Pinecrests sole purpose on this message board to be negative on every single topic? As I have mentioned before the posts were deleted, it is very childish and pathetic to call people names on a message board. Would it kill you to be a lot more grown up about your insults or keep them to yourself until something constructive comes to mind.

As for Delaware, I liked the track but the only way I will ever go back is to see OSCAAR or NCTS/CASCAR. Sorry, but nothing else Delaware has could make me give up my DIRT Racing.  I would love to see Tony buy it back as it needs a lot of work.

So how bad is TN???

That depends who you ask. As a race promoter, he was one of the best. He pulled the track out from the dark ages when Super Late Model racing was dying as a weekly division. He evolved the old Street Stock A division into CASCAR late model, which was a very viable sportsman division that brought a number of the old timers back. And the racing was excellent and the fans started coming back.

He was also responsible for turning the facility into what it is now. In the 70's, Delaware had as much character as a gravel pit. The place was falling apart. Everything you see out there now (even as its aged) was built gradually after Novotny took over in the end of the 70s. Bathrooms, pit garage, control tower, molded plastic seats in turn 1, licensed section, concrete retaining walls (no more tearing your car up pulling it off of guardrail posts.)

From a fan standpoint, he was the savior of Delaware. He turned the place around.

The problems (as far as Fri night racing goes) arose when the Super Series took off. Guys were no longer allowed to keep their Nova and Monte Carlo bodies, thay had to upgrade to current styles, and the cars began to resemble Winston Cup cars.

Guys were not encouraged to race on Friday night, as the prevailing attitude was that all the top dogs on Friday night were just there until they could "move up" to the Super Series.

So now armed with rules saying current body styles required, the rule was then expanded to say only current body styles bought from, you guessed it, Mr Novotny. And they're expensive. And the racing is rough, so you gotta keep buying those panels. Guys didn't like that.  And I don't think body panels were the only thing that needed to be bought in-house. Maybe someone else can answer.

Guys never had any input as far as rules go. It was Tony's way or the highway. He ran the ship the way he did and never mind that your car can't race at other tracks, and other track's cars can't race here. I believe I heard it once said that Delaware was like the snotty glamor girl who was too good to associate with anyone else at the party.

So, that's my view, as a simple race fan. I'm sure there's lots more the drivers and teams of the era could add.  There's a bunch of good and bad points to having TN as the promoter.

Anyway, its all idle chit chat. I still don't think he'll be in at Delaware, unless he got hired on as an interim manager. I just don't see it.

Thanks again for the update.

Based on the post from DB71 and the letter from Kevin..

If this ownership group is as greedy as they appear, won't listen or support the management team they have had in place for several years , why on earth would they listen to the man who sold them the track? What has changed so much from the positive meeting that was recorded on this web site in in December?

Let's hope that something is done before the end of March.. It is a shame that no one from the speedway can now make a comment to the racers, some of whom have several thousand dollars invested in  their love.

I am in DIRT racing and the guy I help out on the pit crew considered CASCAR when it was first conceived. He laughed at it because of some of the rules. HE said there were too many and the engine being used was ancient and finding bloacks was tough apparently... I can't remember what else he said but he quickly just went DIRT Modified racing.
