OHSWEKEN, Ont. – August 23, 2017 – The second ever Triple Crown Showdown presented by Townline Variety and Stoneridge Specialty Insurance is ready to take the green flag on Thursday, August 24 with the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds set to headline the an action-packed show.

The best Big-Block Modified drivers in the world take centre stage at Ohsweken in one of the most highly anticipated races for the Series this season. The event also features Ohsweken’s own Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars is a $3,000-to-win special event. The Go Nuclear Late Model Series make their season debut in a $2,000-to-win showdown in the Series third visit. To Ohsweken.

The Triple Crown Showdown offers a unique opportunity to both fans and drivers. Fans have the chance to see three of the most popular forms of dirt track cars on the same night at the same track. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Super DIRTcar Series star Stewart Friesen will have his Eldora Dirt Derby NASCAR Truck on display. Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds
The Super DIRTcar Series last visited Ohsweken in 2015 for the inaugural Triple Crown Showdown. Chad Brachmann of Sanborn, NY upset the talented cast of Super DIRTcar Series regulars for his first career win with the Series in the 75-lap affair. Brachmann came from 11th to score the victory over Dale Planck and reigning Super DIRTcar Series champion Matt Sheppard.

Entering Thursday’s race, the Series has been off since it last competed at nearby Merrittville Speedway on August 9 when Sheppard extended his winning streak to four races. Despite his hot streak, Sheppard sits third in the championship standings, 105 points back of current leader Billy Decker. ‘Lightning’ Larry Wight sits second in the championship standings just 42 markers back of Decker. Brett Hearn and Stewart Friesen round out the current top-five.

Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
The drivers in the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car division will likely have to contend with several outside invaders in the high-paying $3,000-to-win event. For many drivers, the race not only serves as an excellent payday, but also as a tune-up for the massive $12,000-to-win Canadian Sprint Car Nationals three weeks later on September 15-16.

The talented cast of Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car regulars are coming off a thrilling night of action during double Features last Friday night where Mitch Brown and Cory Turner each went to Victory Lane for the first time this season. The division saw a huge shake-up in the point standings when Dylan Westbrook experienced engine issues. Jim Huppunen now has a two-point advantage entering this week’s action with Westbrook sitting in second. Cory Turner sits 42 points off the lead in third ahead of Mitch Brown and Mikey Kruchka.

Go Nuclear Late Models
The Go Nuclear Late Models make their third visit to Ohsweken at the Triple Crown Showdown to kickoff their four-race 2017 schedule. The Series was also a part of the inaugural Triple Crown Showdown on June 30, 2015 when Darren Peters held off Charlie Sandercock for the victory.

The Series last visited on July 25, 2016 during the Northern Crate Nationals when John Waters of Whitesville, NY also defeated Sandercock to score the win. This year, Sandercock is already one driver confirmed to run in at least two classes on the night with his Late Model and 360 Sprint Car.
