CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK COUNTS DOWN TO THE CASTROL PRESENTS THE VICTORIA DAY SPEEDFEST WEEKEND

First Major Event Of 2016 Season Is Less Than A Month Away

(BOWMANVILLE, ON – April 28, 2016) In less than a month, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will kick-off its 2016 major event schedule, and the unofficial start to the summer season, with the Castrol presents the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend, May 20-22.

The famous 3.957 km (2.459 km) Grand Prix circuit will host the Clarington 200 on Sunday, May 22, the season opening race for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. Joining the stock cars over the three days, will be the high performance sports cars of Pirelli World Challenge (all classes), the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama and the Canadian Touring Car Championship.

The Clarington 200 will see a mix of veterans such as defending and four-time series champion Scott Steckly, previous CTMP winners D.J. Kennington, L.P. Domoulin and Andrew Ranger and young guns Kevin Lacroix, Cayden Lapcevich and Gary Klutt, who will be looking to make their mark on championship standings.

The always entertaining Pirelli World Challenge will have eight classes (GT/GTA/GT Cup/GTS/Spring-X GT/TC/TCA/TCB) competing in eight races. The Series will showcase many of the top marques such as Acura, Audi, Bentley, Cadillac, Honda, Ferrari, Porsche, Nissan, Viper, and many more competing for bragging rights and the top step of the podium. Canadians running in the GT classes include Barrie native Kyle Marcelli, Anthony Mantella of Toronto and Huntsville’s Martin Barkey.

The Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama is entering its sixth season of producing intense, exciting competition for semi-professional and fast-rising professional drivers in the world’s most produced race car, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA)-sanctioned championship is one of 20 global Porsche single-make Cup Racing series and is a platform for drivers to ascend to the highest levels of GT competition, such as the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The country's top sedan road-racing series, the Canadian Touring Car Championship, will make its first of two stops at CTMP in 2016, boasting a field of more than 30 cars, competing in four distinct classes, Super Touring, Touring, Grand Touring and B-Spec. This will be a doubleheader weekend for the Championship.

A three-day SuperTicket is just $50 until May 18 ($60 at the Gate). Each ticket includes parking, access to the race team paddock, the CTMP Marketplace and the Canadian Tire Action Zone. CTMP will celebrate the Victoria Day holiday in style with its traditional fireworks display on the Saturday night (May 21). New this season, children 16 and under are now admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult admission. Single day tickets are also available.

Family and general camping areas are available. An advanced general camping pass is just $40 for the weekend when purchased before May 18 (tents or pop-up trailers). Advance RV passes are $60. There are full-service washrooms and shower facilities located on the grounds.

For the spectators that like to get closer to the action, the Grand Prix Club offers a VIP hospitality package which includes a fully catered BBQ lunch, beverages and bar service (beer and wine) on Sunday. The GP Club Chalet tent is located trackside overlooking the start/finish straight and Corner One. Passes are just $150 and are also good for admission to the event on Friday and Saturday.
