ROSSI SCORES FIRST WIN OF 2018 SEASON
NAPA AUTO PARTS driver collects third Verizon IndyCar Series victory
California-native, Alexander Rossi saw the twin checkers wave over the streets of Long Beach, Calif., as he drove his NAPA AUTO PARTS Honda across the finish line to claim his first win of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season. The 26-year old started today's 85-lap event from the pole postition.
Today's victory at the Grand Prix of Long Beach marks the third time the Rossi has drove his way to victory lane. The Andretti Autosport driver visited the winner's circle at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2016 and last year at Watkins Glen International after starting from the pole position.
Rossi finished the 2017 season sitting seventh in the championship standings and 11th the year prior, collecting Rookie of the Year Honors for both the Indianapolis 500 and 2016 season.
The is the 58th Verizon IndyCar Series victory for Andretti Autosport. Since 2003, Andretti Autosport has scored four series titles (‘04/Kanaan, ‘05/Wheldon, ‘07/Franchitti and ‘12/Hunter-Reay) and five Indianapolis 500 wins (‘05/Wheldon, ‘07/Franchitti, ‘14/Hunter-Reay, ‘16/Rossi and '17/Sato).
Andretti Autosport has four full-time entries in the Verizon IndyCar Series, with Rossi, Zach Veach (No. 26 Group One Thousand One Honda), Ryan Hunter-Reay (No. 28 DHL Honda) and Marco Andretti (No. 98 U.S. Concrete / Curb Honda).
