Maritime League of Legends Tour New Brunswick Bound for Round Four

(BEDFORD, NS - July 19th, 2018) - The Maritime League of Legends Tour will contest their first of three New Brunswick races on the 2018 season when the Series takes the green flag Saturday at Petty International Raceway. The River Glade bullring will be the stage for the fourth event on the year. Racing begins on Saturday, July 21st at 6pm.

After a thrilling Celtic Air Services Maritime Legends Challenge that featured many twists and turns over 50-laps, Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) has emerged as the point leader. Baker, who finished seventh at Riverside International Speedway, has an 11 point advantage on Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS), who failed to finish last week due to a mechanical issue.

The No. 12 car, driven to a fifth place finish at Riverside International Speedway by Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS), is third in the point standings. Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB), the leading Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie of the Year contender, is tied with sophomore Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) for fourth in the standings. Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) heads to Petty International Raceway just a single point out of Cormier and Langille for a top five spot in the standings.

The top six have a lot in common when it comes to their racing backgrounds. All started racing in the Bandolero division, the sister car to a Legend. While all six have won multiple races in a Bandolero, Baker, Rogers, Cormier and Langille have won track championships. Baker, MacDonald and Meehan have all transitioned that success into Legend car victories and while Baker and Meehan have won on the Scotia Speedworld Weekly Racing Series this year, only MacDonald has registered a current year Maritime League of Legends win of the group.

Of the top six in the point standings, only one (Rogers) finished in the top five at Riverside International Speedway. A number of full time drivers found bad luck while the likes of Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS), Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake, NS) and Shane Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) brought home top five finishes. They’ll have momentum on their side at Petty International Raceway when the green flag flies on Saturday should they make the haul to New Brunswick.

Darren Sherwood (Cambridge Narrows, NB) has home track advantage at Petty International Raceway. Sherwood will have to fend off his peers including Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), Kyle Shipley (Spryfield, NS) and Kevin MacDonald (Antigonish, NS) should he want to successfully defend his home turf.

Both Petty International Raceway appearances for the Maritime League of Legends Tour in 2017 were won by Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) with Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) and Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) on the podium in both races.

It is a jam packed Saturday of racing at Petty International Raceway. In addition to the 50-lap Maritime League of Legends Tour feature, the racing card also includes the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Irving Blending & Packaging 150, the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s events at Petty International Raceway are $30 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Tickets are available at the gates on race day, cash only. Pit admission is $35 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6pm.
