Danny Benedict Scores First 2014 Peterborough Speedway Feature Win

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

A streak of great runs finally pays off with its ultimate reward.

After a solid stretch of great racing luck - including a string of 3 qualifying event wins in 4 starts - Orono, Ontario racer Danny Benedict finally managed to park his #54 Mini Stock in Peterborough Speedway's victory lane.  The young speedster says it was another night where everything worked exactly the way the team had expected.

"It's taken a lot of hard work to get to this point, but I think this team is really starting to find its rhythm," said Benedict, while relaxing after his Saturday, August 2nd win on the track known as Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.  "I feel like we've put the bad luck behind us and the puzzle pieces are finally starting to come together.  I think the timing couldn't be better for a hot streak and a late season championship charge."

The feature win wasn't the only part of Danny Benedict's highlight reel at Peterborough.  There was also a second place finish in the holdover feature (from July 19th) to start the night and begin a busy stretch for the driver and his family.  Sunday, August 3rd the team towed to Sunset Speedway, where they battled a loose racecar throughout the day, but added another heat race win to this year's total. The day's efforts also included a 3rd place showing in the Dash for Cash and 5th at the checkered flag in the Mini Stock 'A' main.

Action for the #54 Mustang continues with a stop in the Nation's Capital and a tour of Algonquin College on Wednesday, August 6th and a night of racing at Capital City Speedway.  From there, it will be back to the friendly, familiar faces at Peterborough Saturday, August 9th, followed by a Sunday, August 10th afternoon tilt with the second round of the Mini Stock Nationals - in support of the OSCAAR Super Late Models - at Kawartha Downs and Speedway.  Team owner, crew chief and father Doug Benedict says it's almost like taking a step back to the early days of the sport.

"The barnstormers used to tow all over the place, racing whenever and wherever they could," said Benedict.  "We're just doing this for fun, but by the time we tuck our little pony car into bed after the Kawartha show, it will have run 5 shows over 9 days.  That's an excellent family bonding experience and a lot of racing for a Mini Stock program from a small town like Orono."
