Greenlaw First in Firecracker 150

(Geary, NB – August 13th, 2018) – Drew Greenlaw entered the 2018 racing season at Speedway 660 with two goals in mind – to win the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman championship and win an extended distance feature event.

After Saturday night, the Eastport, Maine youngsters can scratch the latter off the list.

Greenlaw drove to the win in Saturday’s Firecracker Sportsman 150 for his first extended lap Late Model victory. The point leader in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division raced to the win over Devin Snell (Saint John), who made a Sportsman start Saturday with the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Pro Stock division idle on the night. The margin of victory was under a half second at the end of 150-laps.

Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) crossed the line in third with Clark Moore (Saint John) and Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) completing the top five. For the sophomore Moore, it was his best finish in an extended distance Sportsman event at his home track.

The top five finishers secured their spots into the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150 on Saturday, September 1st. The SpeedWeekend Sportsman race will pay a whopping $7,500 to the winner.

Richard Atkinson (Geary), Greenlaw and Alexandra O’Blenis took home qualifying heat races in the Firecracker 150. Sixteen drivers answered the call to the green flag.

Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) drove to his second feature victory of the year in the DMR Auto Street Stock feature. Hyslop, who is locked in a four way battle for the point championship in the class, bested Benji Ruff (Carlow) and Riley Goodwin (McAdam), who entered as the point leader, on the podium. Justin Cole (Harvey) and rookie Kyle MacKinnon (Lincoln) completed the top five in the 11-car field. MacKinnon and fellow freshman Street Stock driver Kyle Boudreau (Saint John) scored heat race victories.

Brody Levesque (Fredericton) visited Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter victory lane for the fifth time this season with a victory on Saturday evening. Levesque closed the gap on point leader Bryan Suttie (Keswick), who was second in the feature event on Saturday after both won heat race qualifiers. Third in the feature was BJ Gillespie (Nackawic), followed by Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) and rookie Randy Titus (French Lake).

Joe Hoyt (Waasis) extended his point lead on the Atlantic Modified Tour with his second feature win of the season. Hoyt raced to the 35-lap victory over “Mr. Excitement” Doug Matchett (Miramichi) and Kevin Bailey (Minto). Braxton Stafford (Blackville) and Riley Frost (Geary) completed the top five in the 10-car field. Greg Butler (Hoyt) and Cody Price (Nackawic) won qualifying heat races in the return of the Series to Speedway 660.

Racing action returns to the Geary woods on Saturday, August 18th with Fan Appreciation Night. With only two point races to go, the drivers will be gunning hard in a late season push to the top of their respective divisions. The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters along with the return of the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Pro Stocks will highlight the racing portion of the card. Racing action begins on August 11th at 6:30pm with an autograph session kicking off festivities at 5:30pm .
