Eight Race Divisions Make For Exciting Night At Flamboro Speedway

By Randy Spencer for Flamboro Speedway - A busy night of racing at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway with the Lucas Oil Sportsman in town and they were joined by the Junior Late Models and Mini Trucks from Grand Bend & Full Throttle Speedways as well as the Budget Tire Pure Stocks, Klotz Auto Repair & Engine Machine Shop Mini Stocks, Ray's Auto Centre & Towing Super Stocks, Pro Four Modifieds and the Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets.

A jam packed night of racing would get underway at 630pm. A drivers meeting was held with the Mini Stocks prior to racing to discuss last weeks feature race dust up. From all reports the meeting went well and the drivers even got together on their own after the track meeting to discuss it among themselves. Good to see they want to make sure everyone is on the same page so they can all have a good and safe time as well as save their race cars from being wrecked unnecessarily.

The night got underway with time trials for the Lucas Oil Sportsman series. They were having this make up race after the original date was cancelled due to rain at Peterborough Speedway earlier this month. Eleven cars were signed in and one car, the 9 of Bob Schultheiss had a rear end let go as he was qualifying and his night was done. The rest of the pack to five laps and Chad McGlynn would lay down the fast time with a 16.119.

The first race to hit the track was the Junior Late Models or J Cars as they are known as at Grand Bend and Full Throttle Speedways where they race the majority of the time. Ten cars made the first race with Cody Wilds and Brent Small on the pole. Small would lead lap one but on lap four Jacob Campbell would take the lead down the back stretch. A couple laps late heading through 3-4 the 48 and 43 bounced around and got loose and the 43 would go backwards to the wall and the 48 took a right and hit the wall quite hard. These are basically a go kart with a race car body so at first it looked bad. Both drivers were shaken but didn't seem to badly hurt otherwise. The race continued with Campbell leading off the restart and the rest of the way to pick up the win. Campbell currently leads J Car points at Grand Bend/Full Throttle. The Mini Trucks were next with Tanner Pirie and Kaisha Zimoch leading the field to green. Pirie led by a good margin early but the 11 of Kevin Stark caught Pirie and took the lead and would pick up the win.

Pure Stocks were next and nice to see 23 cars signed in. They are prepping for their big event Monday night as the Pure Stock Invitational awards $500 to the winner. Clinton Kerkhof and Bob Hillar were on the pole. Hillar led the first two laps and the next time past the caution flew as Devyn Bye was into the 24 of Blair Mayhew bringing out the caution. On the restart Kerkhof was the new leader and he would lead the rest of the way for the win.

Fifteen Mini Stocks were led to green by Mike Gilmour and Kyle Istead. Gilmour led lap one by the 76 of Shawn Taylor got by through 3-4 the next lap to take the lead. He quickly built a big lead and wouldn't be seriously challenged and picked up the victory.

Carson Nagy and Brandon McFerran were on the pole as ten Super Stocks took their first green flag of the night. Nagy led a tight pack of six cars nose to tail for several laps early. Shawn Arnott was running second and took the lead through 3-4 four laps in and wouldn't look back picking up the victory.

The Pro Four Modifieds were next and Aaron Turkey and Dan Nanticoke were pole. Nanticoke has had a great year and continued his dominance as he led flag to flag for the victory. Nice battle for second and third between Turkey and Brian Nanticoke.

The Can Am Midgets were next with twelve cars taking green. Luc Munsie and Dominique Smith were out front with Smith leading early. Darren Dryden was experiencing problems and hit the pits early. Barry Dunn would take the lead as the cars made there way into one on lap three. Dunn would battle Adam Racine for several laps. The two battled back and forth for several laps with Racine being the new leader at lap ten. He would build a healthy lead with the battle raging behind. Mack Deman was on Dunn's "bumper" with Steve Murdock there as well. Deman would get past Dunn followed by Murdock. Deman started to gain on Racine and out of four made a valiant effort to take the lead but a slight wobble by Deman and that gave Racine all he needed as he edged Deman for the win.

The LOSC were next for their first 50 lap race. The fast five draw would take place to determine the front five. Five young fans each held a hat with a number and each driver would pick one to see where he would start in the top five. Alvin McNichol qualified fifth and drew first and he would pick fourth and move up one spot from where he qualified earlier. Next was Doug Cathcart, he moved from fourth to fifth. The "Flying Farmer" was next, he qualified third fastest and drew the pole. Brandt Graham qualified second and drew third with the fast time driver, Chad McGlynn having the last hat and was second. That set the field. As they took green it was Gallant leading lap one. The field battle nose to tail for several laps. The 05 of Brandon Huras was showing significant smoke and was black flagged to the pits. The first caution was on lap 17 as Adam Martin was around in two. On the restart it was still Gallant leading narrowly over Graham and McGlynn. A few laps later Graham got past Gallant through 3-4 and was the new leader. A caution one lap later as Martin was around in the same spot as earlier bringing a caution. On the restart, Graham led but a oil leak from the 43 of Bob Merrifield around most of the track brought caution and a red. Due to time constraints, the race was called after 30 laps with Brandt Graham the winner.

We got right into round two of features with just 21 of the original 23 Pure Stocks taking green. Paul Ditner and Matt Fraser were pole and Fraser led lap one. the 90x of Gary Slama was off with a flat on lap one and first feature winner Clinton Kerkhof was off on lap two. On lap four a new leader emerged, the 16 of Mark Thorne. Thorne entered the night 23 points back of leader Doug Moir. He would help his cause by leading the rest of the way to pick up the win.

Mini Stocks were next with Kaitlyn Wallace and Mike Hooper leading the field to green. David Gallinger had a fast car on the night and led early. He would put on quite a battle with points leader Russ Aicken. Aicken eventually would get past followed by Allie Ditner. Ditner would be a little quicker and got past to be the new leader by the half way point. She had a big lead but Jason Leblanc would be around in two on lap thirteen bringing the field back to even. That didn't faze Ditner as she once again built a comfortable lead to pick up the win.

Super Stocks were next and Chris Howse and Carson Nagy were pole. Howse led early but Brandon McFerran took the lead heading down the front stretch on lap six. Nick Troback would follow through to take second followed by Brad Collison who moved to third as Howse quickly found himself on the outside and was back to fifth. Mcferran, who trails points leader Troback by 17 points would battle hard for several laps but Troback would get by for the lead late and hold on for the win.

Pro Fours were up for their second fifteen lap feature event. Gillian Hills and Aaron Turkey were pole. Turkey led early but the Nanticoke brothers made their way to the front quick. Brian got out to a big lead followed by Dan. Brian would hold off Dan for the feature win.

The Can Am Midgets were next for their second feature. Cory Whittam and Adrian Stahle led the field to green. Whittam led early and started to breakaway from the field. Stahle was gaining and made it close but as the checkers flew it was Whittam followed by Stahle and Deman.

The LOSC were next and once again due time constraints and and 11pm curfew, there race would be thirty laps. Doug Cathcart and Alvin McNichol were pole. Cathcart led early and was challenged by Chad McGlynn. Brandt Graham made his way to second and would take the lead as he got by Cathcart heading into three on lap fifteen. He would lead the rest of the way to pick up the win followed by McGlynn and Cathcart.

The last races of the night were for the Junior Late Models and Mini Trucks. Hannah Brown and Logan White led the field to green. Brown led the first three laps. A couple cautions on laps four and six brought the cars back to even and when the dust cleared the 44 of Jacob Campbell was the new leader. As the checkers flew it was a clean sweep on the night for Campbell winning this one followed by Brent Small and Logan White.

The Mini Trucks were led to green for the final race of the night by Bubba Brown and Cole Pirie. Pirie led lap one but Kevin Stark made his way from near the rear of the field to take the lead and build a big advantage over the rest of the pack to also make a clean sweep on the night followed by Rob Broadhurst and Tanner Pirie.

That brought to a close a very exciting and action packed night of racing. Please make plans to join us this Monday, August 21st for the Gold Rush 100 for Outlaw Super Late Models. At least two dozen cars are confirmed with several from the U.S.A. The winner will get $5000 and if they decide to go to the rear of the field and come back to win they could take another $5000. Pits open at 3pm, front gates at 5pm with racing at 7pm. Check the website for all the details.
