SODS Return, Champions to be Crowned Saturday

By: Anita Soltis

(Plymouth, IN) The Bob Newton Classic is shaping up to be the most exciting evening of racing yet as many Sprints on Dirt Series (SODS) favorites return to Plymouth Speedway this Saturday.  In addition to their anticipated return, the champions in the speedway’s five regular classes will be determined.

Gregg Dalman hopes to increase his current points lead in the SODS while Kyle Pitts and Brad Lamberson fight to claim second place in the standings.  Only one point separate the pair as they take on the dirt oval at the Playground of Power this Saturday, Aug. 15.

Brett Mann, Craig Karazin and Linden Jones will also have a chance to give the top runners a reason to race to the best of their abilities when the green flag flies.

Jamie Lomax from Lake Village is setting his sights on a back-to-back championship in the Swan Lake Resort UMP Modified division at Plymouth Speedway.  He leads Dylan Woodling of Warsaw by 79 points heading into the season closer.  Nappanee’s Nick Yoder has a 17 point advantage over Lakeville’s Eric Saunders in the Dickies Restaurant 600 Open Sprints division.  In the WTCA Super Streets battle, David Short, of Winamac,  as a 35 point advantage over Roger Duszynski from Black Oak.  John Rhoads, of Mentone, looks to claim the title in the Walmart Thunder Stocks division.  Rhoads leads the standings over Winamac’s Jim Henson by 42 points.  In the speedway’s newest division this season, the Bane-Welker Cyber Stocks, Loren Swanson, of Markle, is 24 points ahead of North Judson’s Kirby Trent.

All will be final this Saturday.

In addition to all of the excitement, fans, drivers and track staff will take the time to remember one of racing’s most innovative minds.  Bob Newton had a drive to create a better racing tire while racing and in 1957, Hoosier Racing Tire was born.  Bob and his wife, Joyce, founded the company that continues to propel race cars to victories in many levels of racing.  His memory will be honored with many of his family members in attendance on Saturday.

The gates will open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. ET.  For ticket and pit pass pricing information, visit www.plymouthspeedway.net
