Dan Nanticoke Wins Big On Pro Four Modified Memorial Night

By Randy Spencer for Flamboro Speedway - The annual Pro Four Modified night was on tap along with a few extra features from the rain out on July 22nd at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway.

Originally all four features were to run on this night but a change was made and the Late Models and Mini Stocks would run tonight and the Super Stocks and Pro Fours will run their extra features on August 26th.

Racing got underway with the two rain out features up first. Matt Young and Rich Schwartzenberg led the field of fifteen to green in the twenty lap feature. Schwartzenberg led early. He was holding off the field with a battle building up behind him between Shawn Taylor and Allie Ditner. Taylor was second but Ditner, who started fifth was soon up to second and would take the lead through 1-2 on lap ten. As the cars were taking the white flag, Jake Gilbert found his way to the lead pack and the three battled hard through 1-2 and Gilbert got past to take the lead and pick up the first checkered flag of the night.

Late Models were next. Thirteen cars took the green and pole sitter Jeff Ruddy was the early leader. As the race progressed Mark Burbridge was challenging Ruddy at every turn. They battled for several laps close,  Ruddy was around in four on lap 20 bringing out a caution. That would put Burbridge up front along side Kevin Albers for the restart. The final ten laps were a good battle but Burbridge showed he had just a little more and picked up the win.

We got into our regular portion of the racing program with the Pure Stocks. Leo Labarbera and Mark Dennis were up front and Labarbera led one and points leader Doug Moir was first next time past. At the start of the night, Moir held an eight point lead over second place car of Mark Thorne. The raced progressed and the 81 of Rodney Rutherford was pushing Moir hard. He would take the lead through 3-4 on lap seven and wouldn't be challenged the rest of the way picking up the victory.

Flamboro Speedway Pure Stock Aug. 12, 2017
1st feature of the Pure Stock

Super Stocks were next Carson Nagy and points leader Nick Troback leading the field to green. Troback held a six point advantage on the 31 team of Brandan McFerran/Kevin Gallant heading into action. Troback led early but a caution early on but a caution as the 97 car of Austin Penney lost a part in three and he came to a stop heading into one. Looked like maybe a drive shaft and there was some fluid down so the red flag came out as the track clean up staff quickly cleaned the track. On the restart Brad Collison was lined up beside Troback. Collison would lead a couple laps but the two battled door to door before Troback regained the lead through 3-4 on lap twelve. As the checkers flew it was Troback made it three wins in a row to pad his points lead.

Russ Aicken would head into the night with the biggest lead in any point standing with a 56 point cushion on his next closest competitor, Allie Ditner. Aicken was away on this night so his team mate Nick Roth was behind the wheel. Roth led lap one and he and Rich Schwartzenberg would lead the field and start to put some distance in between themselves and the rest of the pack. Ditner caught Schwartzenberg and would get by for second on lap thirteen and then Jake Gilbert would overtake Ditner a few laps later. They would keep it close and as the cars came out of four with the checkers in sight, Roth would show he hasn't lost the touch narrowly edging Gilbert and Ditner at the line. Very close finish in this one as the three were no more than a few car lengths apart.

Late Models were next with Kevin Albers and Mark Burbridge leading the pack. Albers led one and he started to breakaway from the field. But before long Shawn Chenoweth was on his bumper. They would breakaway from the rest until a caution in 1-2 as Burbridge was around spilling some fluid. Billy Schwartzenberg was around as well and the 63 of Hudson Nagy was up on the side of Schwartzenberg. Burbridge wouldn't continue but Schwartzenberg would hit the pits but make it back out albeit with some extensive body damage. On the restart the two leaders once again broke from the pack. A caution on lap 25 wouldn't faze Albers however as he lead flag to flag to pickup the feature win.

Flamboro Speedway Pro Late Models, Aug. 12,2017
2nd feature of the night for the Pro Late Models

The Pro Fours were up and they had twelve cars out for Memorial Night. Nice to see Dan Nanticoke back after he was injured after last weeks second feature. Gillian Hils and Brian Nanticoke were on the pole and Nanticoke led early. But Dan showed no ill effects and he would pass brother Brian into three on lap five and would soon build a half track lead. A late caution didn't matter as Nanticoke still would pick up the win.

After intermission it was the Pure Stocks out first. John Ditner and Eric Crow were pole and Crow led early. Clinton Kerkhof was outside of row two and he and Crow would battle and break from the pack. Kerkhof would get past Crow for the lead a few laps later but soon feature one winner Rodney Rutherford was banging on Kerkhof's back door. He would get by and was the new leader and the battle was for second and third between Kerkhof and Doug Moir. As the checkers flew it was Rutherford first followed by Moir and Kerkhof.

Super Stocks hit the track and it was Shawn Arnott lining up beside his nemesis Chris Howse. Arnott was hoping to have better luck in this one after a broken sway bar saw him finish ninth in feature one. Arnott led early and put some distance between himself and the next pack of cars. He would lead  and seem sure of victory but a caution as Brad Collison was around out of four on lap seventeen. Carson Nagy and Nick Troback had no where to go and the three were into it. Troback and Collison were able to continue but Nagy was off on the hook. On the restart, Arnott continued to lead and would lead flag to flag for the win followed by Howse and Brandon McFerran.

Flamboro Speedway Superstocks, Aug. 12, 2017
2nd feature race for the Superstocks

Mini Stocks were next and this was by far the most interesting tilt of the night. And that it was, a tilt. Rich Schwartzenberg and Kyle Istead were pole and Schwartzenberg led one. An early caution as the 77 of Mike Hooper was into Istead at the front of the pack and it collected several cars including Rodney Rutherford, Jonathan Ayrton, Kaitlyn Wallace and Michael Kenny. Shame for Kenny, once again he received some significant damage and was done for the night. Same for Wallace as she had a rough night as she was off on the hook. Several laps later down the front stretch the 03x of Bob Gilbert and 71 of Nick Roth were into it. As the 71 sat backwards just off the grass beyond the start finish line, Gilbert ran at him and then circled like a bull and was warned to knock off the antics and he headed pit side as did Roth with some severe damage to the suspension and rear axle. Bob Gilbert was DQ'd for his actions. Please watch the video to see for yourself. On the restart, Jake Gilbert and Allie Ditner battled but it was Gilbert taking the checkers. After the race in tech, Gilbert had a total DQ for the night.

Flamboro Speedway Mini Stocks, Aug. 12, 2017
3rd feature of the night for the Mini Stocks

Late Models were out for their third thirty lap feature on the night. Blair Wickett and Billy Schwartzenberg were pole. Schwartzenberg led early and he and Shawn Chenoweth were the class of the field and they broke away. On lap six and seven, three cars hit the pits and would not finish. After a strong start to the night Mark Burbridge luck was not so good in the race two and three and he was done for the night. Blair Wickett and race two winner Kevin Albers were also finished. A caution on lap 17 as Bill Pearsall was around in two and Chenoweth was the new leader on the restart. Schwartzenberg slowed and he took it to the pits as well. Chenoweth wouldn't be challenged and picked up the feature win.

Last race of the night was for the Pro Four Modifieds. Gillian Hils and Aaron Turkey were pole. Hils led lap one but Dan Nanticoke was on a mission. He wanted to win both on this night. And he wouldn't disappoint as he once again had a half track lead and picked up the win.
