SMASHING SATURDAY NIGHT LINED UP AT PETTY RACEWAY

(PETITCODIAC, NB – July 4th, 2018) – One of the most popular events of the Petty International Raceway season takes place this Saturday evening. The MetalCore and D.R. Scrap Metals Night of Destruction sees a full stock car racing card highlighted by Demolition events and the smashing finale - a Demolition Derby! This is the fourth year for the event and features a purse of $1,000 on the line for Demolition competitors. The event also includes stock car action in the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman, Westwood Estates Street Stock, Mister Transmission Mini Stock, Leisure Days RV Bandolero divisions and a return of the Atlantic Modified Tour. Racing goes green on July 7th at 6pm.

Along with the $500 to win Demolition Derby finale on the night, the Demolition competitors have three “heat races” to partake in during Intermission on Saturday night. The Barrell Race and Reverse/Back Up Race will each pay $150 to the winners while the newly added Blindfold Race will pay $200 to the winning car. Open to racers with two seats, the Blindfold Race will see a co-pilot guide a blindfolded driver around the high banked bullring with their eyes on the checkered flag.

The three feature winners from 2018 line up in the top three spots when it comes to A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman points. Miramichi’s Brady Creamer leads the standings by nine point over Season Opener winner Laurie Cormier (Riverview) and by 15 over Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS), the most recent winner in the class on June 9th. Consistency has placed former track champion Luc Bourgeois (Memramcook) tied for third with Veinotte after three races. Reigning champion Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury) has his work cut out for him over the next four events as he has a 25-point hole to climb from in fifth. Neal Crawford (Salisbury) finds himself a single point out of the top five after the first trio of events in 2018.

With Scotia Speedworld and Riverside International Speedway both idle in Nova Scotia this weekend, there may be a number of Bluenose invaders make the trek to Petty International Raceway for the 50-lap feature.

Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac) has held the hot hand this year in the Westwood Estates Street Stock division. Cudmore has won the last two events, including the Westwood Estates 100 on June 9th, and will lead the field into competition Saturday evening. Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois) is locked into a point battle with Rookie of the Year leader Brandon Carter (Moncton) with only two points between the pair after three races. Defending champion Logan Power (Riverview) has an 18 point deficit to overcome with five point paying events to go as he currently sits fourth in the standings. “The Pink Panther” is fifth in the standings with MacKenzie Jr. expected to pilot the No. 55 on Saturday evening.

The 2018 season has been a career one for Patricia Taylor (Salisbury). Taylor has won two of the first three races in the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division this season and leads the field into battle for Round Four on Saturday night. Her teammate Mike Weagle (Salisbury) sits only six points out of the lead in second with Chantel Ackles (Shubenacadie, NS) third. Rob Poirier (Irishtown) and Chris Garnett (Havelock) are charging hard and will be looking to end up in victory lane after 25-laps on Saturday evening.

While MacKenzie Jr and Power have had speedbumps on their title defense routes, Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) hasn’t had a major hiccup after three races. The reigning Leisure Days RV Bandolero titlist leads all comers in 2018 as the season nears the halfway point. Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS) is in the midst of a breakout season and sits second overall with fan favorite Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) in third. Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) and Evan Lane (Salisbury) round out a tight top five point battle with a 20-lap feature on deck for Saturday.

Joe Hoyt (Wassis) is the most recent winner on the Atlantic Modified Tour after taking the win on June 16th at Speedway Miramichi. Hoyt leads Series standings 11 markers over Braxton Stafford Racing and 14 points over John Lyons of Doaktown. Lyons is the point leader in the Petty Raceway house points for the division over Stafford and Hoyt after their first race at the track on May 19th. This is the second of five races for the Atlantic Modifieds at Petty International Raceway on 2018.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s events are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 2pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6pm.
